Imagine Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem – Imagina a María y José viajando a Belén

Imagina a María y José viajando a Belén

Imagine Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem

When Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem, they had to travel nearly 100 miles over terrain that was mountainous, arid and dangerous. As they traveled, Mary was near the moment to give birth to Jesus. The nine days that we celebrate the Posadas in Hispanic communities estimates pretty well the time that it must have taken Joseph and Mary to go from Nazareth to Bethlehem. As we celebrate Posada in our Hispanic communities, let us celebrate the joyful coming of our Savior, but do so making our journey with Joseph and Mary a time to remember the meaning of our salvation.

The pilgrimage of Joseph and Mary to the town of David must have captured their Jewish imagination. They pondered the meaning of the coming of their child. They remembered the prophecies about the messiah who would come. Many emotions must have accompanied them on their journey; joy, doubt, concern, love, fear, relief and many other emotions.

As we reflect on their journey, let us ponder the wonder of our journey.

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
