Una, santa, católica y apostólica
Nunca me siento más “uno, santo, católico y apostólico” que cuando me reúno con las personas que amo. Tengo familiares y amigos con los que crecí que ya no se identifican como católicos. Algunos participan en otras tradiciones religiosas hoy. Algunos no profesan ningún interés en ninguna afiliación religiosa. Algunos hablan de espiritualidad, separada de cualquier compromiso con una comunidad eclesial. Las razones por que muchos no se identifican con una iglesia es por falta de experimentar testigos vivos de la fe.
La próxima semana, espero encontrarme con amigos que conozco desde hace muchos años. Todos hemos encontrado formas distintas que describimos de la fe hoy. Nos hemos reunido de todas partes del mundo para nuestras pequeñas reuniones, y aunque algunos no se identifiquen con la Iglesia, experimentamos la ‘iglesia’ al unirnos. Todos vivimos con un espíritu de amor que nos inspira a ser “uno, santo, católico y apostólico” aunque algunos no siempre se hayan sentido o hayan sido parte de la institución que llamamos Iglesia.

One, holy, catholic and apostolic
I never feel more “one, holy, catholic and apostolic” than when gathering with people whom I love. I have family members and friends that I grew up with who no longer identify themselves as Catholic. Some participate in other religious traditions today. Some profess no interest in any religious affiliation. Some speak of spirituality, separated from any commitment to a church community. The reasons why many do not identify with a church is due to a lack of experiencing living witnesses of the faith.
Next week, I look forward to meeting friends that I have known for many years. We have all found distinct ways that we describe of faith today. We have come together from all over the world for our small gatherings, and while some may not identify themselves with the Church, we experience ‘church’ in coming together. We all live with a spirit of love that inspires us to be “one, holy, catholic and apostolic” even if some have not always felt or been part of the institution that we call Church.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
