Mission to a Wounded World: Review of First three themes – Revisión de los primeros tres temas

Mission to a Wounded World
Review of First three themes
The theological method for Hispanic ministry is: SEE, JUDGE and ACT. Seeing is more than simply vision. It means to take in the whole of the situation, the facts and the needs of the people. When I took a sabbatical to learn the life of the migrant, I spent three months living with farm workers and picking crops in the fields. To SEE meant to let the entire experience inform me. So, it is with the Word of God. Reading Scripture is more than simply the words, but praying about them, reflecting on the Word, entering into a relationship with the Word.
The first theme of the Mission calls on us to listen to the Word of God in our lives. We need to listen to the WORD on a deeper level. We live in a time of misinformation, distortion and hostility. Our introduction to the WORD begins with Genesis, when God created all things and pronounced them “good”. Sometimes the images of God appear harsh, and fearful. In many religions of the world, God is a fearful figure. Our God loves his creation, and wants a relationship with his people. In this time of misinformation, distortion and hostility we are reminded that “God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.” (Jn 3:17)
The second theme considers the WORD made flesh. We consider his mother Mary as our model in faith. Even when unsure of how the angel’s message could take place, she believed. In the most difficult of times, she is a witness to faith. The WORD became flesh in Jesus and FAITH was present in Mary, the mother of Jesus.
The third theme presents Jesus speaking to the wounded of his time. The hostility present in our world today needs his word and example. The world will not hear the WORD if we are not witnessing to the WORD in our lives. The testimony of faith evangelizes the world at all times, even in the difficult times of today.
Tomorrow, we will consider the mercy, compassion and forgiveness of God.

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you.
