Migración y la Paz
Al comenzar nuestros estudios sobre la migración, es obvio que la falta de paz y justicia contribuye a la migración global de personas. Ucrania es solo uno de los países que reconocemos en una gran lucha para proteger a su gente. Hay muchos más países que están en medio de guerras civiles o luchas para controlar las fuerzas maliciosas de las organizaciones criminales que aterrorizan a su gente. También a la violencia física de las naciones en guerra y el crimen organizado, los efectos del cambio climático desafían la vida de millones de personas. En esencia, la migración global es una búsqueda de paz y seguridad.
La paz no es sólo la ausencia de guerra
EG. 218: La paz social no puede entenderse como un irenismo o como una mera ausencia de violencia lograda por la imposición de un sector sobre los otros. También sería una falsa paz aquella que sirva como excusa para justificar una organización social que silencie o tranquilice a los más pobres, de manera que aquellos que gozan de los mayores beneficios puedan sostener su estilo de vida sin sobresaltos mientras los demás sobreviven como pueden. Las reivindicaciones sociales, que tienen que ver con la distribución del ingreso, la inclusión social de los pobres y los derechos humanos, no pueden ser sofocadas con el pretexto de construir un consenso de escritorio o una efímera paz para una minoría feliz. La dignidad de la persona humana y el bien común están por encima de la tranquilidad de algunos que no quieren renunciar a sus privilegios. Cuando estos valores se ven afectados, es necesaria una voz profética.
Levantar voces proféticas es arriesgado. Nuestra historia está llena de mártires por la justicia y la dignidad humana. Es común que los gobiernos autoritarios retraten a los que piden justicia para los pobres, comunistas y socialistas. Muchos gobiernos reaccionan a esos cargos poniendo en peligro la vida de las voces proféticas. Tantas voces proféticas, como la del Arzobispo Oscar Romero, el P. Rutilio Grande, el P. Stanley Rother, los mártires y compañeros de Maryknoll, los jesuitas en Salvador. Voces proféticas fuera de la Iglesia Católica sufrieron los mismos ataques, Mahatma Gandhi, el Dr. Martin Luther King y otros.
Sin embargo, el Papa Francisco dice que cuando la dignidad de la persona humana se ve amenazada, “se debe levantar una voz profética”. Los redentoristas de hoy están respondiendo a los desafíos de la migración global en todo el mundo y, sin embargo, queremos hacer más. Especialmente queremos reconocer la dignidad de todas las personas. Cuando se niega la dignidad humana, se deprime el núcleo de los valores morales. La sociedad prospera cuando se reconoce la dignidad personal, la dignidad del otro y se ama al otro como Cristo nos ha amado.

Migration and Peace
As we begin our studies of migration, it is obvious that lack of peace and justice contributes to the global migration of people. The Ukraine is only one of countries that we recognize in a great struggle to protect its people. There are many more countries that are in the midst of civil wars or struggles to control malicious forces of criminal organizations that terrorize their people. Added to the physical violence of nations at war and organized crime, the effects of climate change challenge the lives of millions of people. Global migration at its heart is a search for peace and security.
Peace is not just an absence of war
EG. 218: Peace in society cannot be understood as pacification or the mere absence of violence resulting from the domination of one part of society over others. Nor does true peace act as a pretext for justifying a social structure which silences or appeases the poor, so that the more affluent can placidly support their lifestyle while others have to make do as they can. Demands involving the distribution of wealth, concern for the poor and human rights cannot be suppressed under the guise of creating a consensus on paper or a transient peace for a contented minority. The dignity of the human person and the common good rank higher than the comfort of those who refuse to renounce their privileges. When these values are threatened, a prophetic voice must be raised.
Raising prophetic voices is risky. Our history is filled with martyrs for justice and human dignity. It is common for authoritarian governments to portray those who call for justice for the poor, communists and socialists. Many governments react to those charges endangering the lives of the prophetic voices. So many prophetic voices, such as Archbishop Oscar Romero, Fr. Rutilio Grande, Fr. Stanley Rother, the Maryknoll martyrs and companions, the Jesuits in Salvador. Prophetic voices outside the Catholic Church suffered the same attacks, Mahatma Ghandi, Dr. Martin Luther King and others.
Yet, Pope Francis says that when the dignity of the human person are threatened, “a prophetic voice must be raised.” Redemptorists today are responding to the challenges of global migration around the world, and yet, we want to do more. We especially want to recognize the dignity of all people. When human dignity is denied, the core of moral values is depressed. Society thrives when one recognizes personal dignity, the dignity of other and loves the other as Christ has loved us.
Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
