Estaré volando de México a los Estados Unidos mañana. Por supuesto, tengo mi pasaporte y mi billete. Me estoy haciendo una prueba de COVID hoy, y aunque espero que la prueba sea negativa, es una sensación incómoda, sabiendo que esta terrible enfermedad puede estar presente sin síntomas. Pueden surgir sentimientos de ansiedad en viajeros que no tienen mayores dificultades para entrar o salir de los Estados Unidos.
Solo puedo imaginar la ansiedad de una persona que huye de un país debido a la desesperación de los miedos reales. Toman la decisión de salir de su país de origen, pero no tienen seguridad de que serán recibidos en ningún otro país. Es posible que tengan que pasar por otro país o países para llegar a un lugar de seguridad. Comienzan el viaje con esperanza, pero en el camino descubren que el viaje como emigrante puede durar meses, años e incluso décadas sin la promesa de que terminarán en un lugar de seguridad y la oportunidad de vivir en paz.
Para muchos, el viaje como emigrante puede parecer desesperado. Se instalan el desánimo y la ira. Se cuestionan los fundamentos de la fe y la moralidad. El viajero internacional con derechos reconocidos experimenta reglas incómodas para viajar a causa de la pandemia del COVID. El viajero sabe que otros en el mismo vuelo abordan los mismos inconvenientes. El viaje del emigrante es solitario, detenido muchas veces para ser inspeccionado, sufriendo el trato de “otro”, ajeno e incluso tratado como criminal.
Mi inconveniencia no es nada en comparación con el emigrante. Seamos todos lo suficientemente humildes para reconocer las luchas de los migrantes. Tomemos tiempo para visualizar la inseguridad de los refugiados y solicitantes de asilo. ¿Podemos reconocer que muchas personas del mundo viven en condiciones que solo podemos imaginar? Por muy cerca que caminemos de los migrantes, no llevamos una carga tan grande como la gente tan desesperada que debe huir de su tierra natal. Por favor, acuérdate de los emigrantes en tu oración.

International Travel
I will be flying from Mexico to the United States tomorrow. Of course, I have my passport, and my ticket. I am getting a COVID test today, and even though I expect the test to be negative, it is an uncomfortable feeling, knowing that this terrible illness may be present without symptoms. Feelings of anxiety can arise in travelers with no major difficulties to enter or leave the United States.
I can only imagine the anxiety of a person fleeing a country because of desperation from real fears. They make a decision to leave their country of origin, but have no security that they will be received in any other country. They may have to pass through another country or countries to reach a place of security. They begin the journey with hope, but on the journey discover that the journey as an emigrant may last months, years and even decades with no promise that they will end in a place of security and the opportunity to live in peace.
For many, the journey as emigrant may appear hopeless. Discouragement and anger set in. The foundations of faith and morality are challenged. The international traveler with recognized rights experiences uncomfortable rules for travel because of the COVID pandemic. The traveler knows that others on the same flight address the same inconveniences. The emigrant journey is lonely, stopped often for inspection, suffering from treatment as “other”, alien and even treated as criminals.
My inconvenience is nothing in comparison with the emigrant. Let us all be humble enough to recognize the struggles of migrants. Let us take time to visualize the insecurity of refugees and asylum seekers. Can we recognize that many people of the world live in conditions that we can only imagine? No matter how closely we walk with migrants, we do not carry an burden so great as people so desperate that they must flee their native land. Please, remember emigrants in your prayer.
Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
