¡Felices Pascuas!

Holy Saturday / Sábado de Gloria

The events of Holy Week, reflecting on Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem lend themselves to remembering the cause of Jesus’ way of the cross. The faithful followers of Jesus stood under the cross or at a distance from the cross. Jesus said, “It is finished”. He handed over the spirit. The disciples left the scene in grief and confusion. For faithful people today, we end Good Friday less fearful than the early disciples. We place Jesus in the tomb, knowing that this is not the end. Jesus completed his mission. It is finished, but ours begins.

A day of Peace

As a priest, I have always found Holy Saturday as one of the most peaceful days of the year. There is no Mass in the morning. Confessions have already been heard. There may be a practice for the evening services, but the liturgy of the Easter Vigil celebrates the marvelous blessing of the promise of eternal life. It is a day to open our minds and hearts to hope and promise.

May God bless you and your loved ones. May peace come to those most in need. Happy Easter!

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
