Prepara el camino del Señor
La primera lectura del segundo domingo de Adviento comienza: “Jerusalén, despójate de tus vestidos de luto y aflicción”. (Bar. 5: 1) ¿Podemos quitarnos el manto de la miseria que nos rodea? Hay tanta negatividad a nuestro alrededor en las noticias del día. Todos los días hay tragedia, COVID, división y dolor. Necesitamos escuchar la voz de Juan el Bautista: “Prepara el camino del Señor”. Nuestra fe nos dice que hay otra manera que vivir en las tinieblas del COVID, la violencia, la venganza, el racismo y el odio. Es el camino del Señor.
El “camino del Señor” llenará los valles y enderezará los caminos tortuosos. Comienza con el perdón. Ese perdón va en dos direcciones. “Perdóna nuestras ofensas como nosotros perdonamos a los que nos ofenden”. Es muy fácil caer en las malas noticias de nuestro tiempo. ¿Que nuestro tiempo de Adviento se llene de confiado gozo en la venida del Señor?

Prepare the way of the Lord
The first reading for the Second Sunday of Advent begins: “Jerusalem, take off your robe of mourning and misery.” (Bar. 5:1) Can we take off the cloak of misery surrounding us? There is such negativity around us in the news of the day. Every day there is news of tragedy, COVID, division and hurt. We need to heed the cry of John the Baptist, “Prepare the way of the Lord.” Our faith tells us that there is another way than dwelling on the darkness of COVID, violence, vengeance, racism and hatred. It is the way of the Lord.
The “way of the Lord” will fill in the valleys and make the crooked roads straight. It begins with forgiveness. That forgiveness goes two directions. “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” It is so easy to fall into the bad news of our times. May our time of Advent be filled with confident joy in the coming of the Lord?

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
