8. Alleluia: A life well lived
Mi madrina
Permítanme apartarme un poco de los blogs normales que se presentan en este sitio web. Ayer celebré la misa fúnebre de mi tía y madrina. Ella era todo lo que debería ser una madrina. Por favor, ore por mi tía Dotty.
Ella era Dorothy, pero siempre la conocimos como Dotty. Poco después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial conoció a un guapo marinero en un baile. Le pidió su número de teléfono y ella dijo: “Búscalo”. Ella no esperaba una llamada, pero él encontró su número y llamó. Poco tiempo después, él le dijo: “Si fueras católica, podríamos casarnos”. Ella dijo que sí tanto a convertirse en católica como a casarse. Pronto se casaron. Su esposo, Chuck, era mi tío y yo nací poco después de que se casaran. Mis padres eligieron sabiamente cuando le pidieron a Chuck y Dotty que fueran mis padrinos. Mi tío Chuck siempre fue un católico fiel, y Dotty adoptó la fe católica de manera tan hermosa que todos los admiraban a los dos.
Tuvimos una buena celebración de su vida. Dimos la bienvenida a ella en la Iglesia, antes de la Oración Colecta, el hijo mayor contó la historia de sus dos amores, su familia y su fe. Me fue fácil ofrecer una homilía sobre ser modelo de fe y confiar en la resurrección. Que todos tengan la bendición de los padrinos, como me gusta decir que tuve los padrinos más grandes del mundo. Ahora Chuck y Dotty están una vez más juntos en la promesa de la resurrección de Jesús.

My Godmother
Allow me to go a bit off of the normal blogs presented on this website. Yesterday, I celebrated the funeral mass of my aunt and godmother. She was everything that a godmother should be. Please pray for my Aunt Dotty.
She was Dorothy, but we always knew her as Dotty. Right after World War II she met handsome sailor at a dance. He asked for her phone number and she said, “Look it up.” She did not expect a call, but he found her number and called. Not long after he told her, “If you were Catholic, we could get married.” She said yes to both becoming Catholic and getting married. Soon they married. Her husband, Chuck was my uncle, and I was born shortly after they married. My parents chose wisely when they asked Chuck and Dotty to be my godparents. My uncle Chuck was always a faithful Catholic, and Dotty took on the Catholic faith so beautifully that all admired the two of them.
We had a good celebration of her life. We welcomed her body into the Church, before the Collect Prayer, he oldest son told the story of her two loves, her family and her faith. It was easy for me to offer a homily on being a model of faith and trusting in the resurrection. May all have the blessings of godparents, as I like to say that I had the greatest godparents in the whole world. Now they are once again together in the promise of Jesus’ resurrection.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
