Araceli
Fui al hospital llevando la comunión a Araceli. Ella estaba en cuidados paliativos. Tenía 34 años, era esposa y madre de tres hermosos hijos. Nuestra parroquia llevó la comunión a ella todos los días. Seis días a la semana, miembros de la parroquia llevaron la comunión. Un día a la semana, uno de los sacerdotes llevó la comunión. Ella y su esposo eran catequistas en nuestro programa de educación religiosa.
Después de darle la comunión, su esposo dijo: “Padre, agradecemos que ella reciba la comunión todos los días, pero ¿podría celebrar misa por ella algún día?” Le dije que invitara a sus padres y otros familiares el próximo día. También, traiga a los niños. Al día siguiente, once miembros de la familia vinieron a la Misa. Estaba extremadamente débil y tuve miedo de que pasara antes de recibir la comunión. Después de recibir la comunión y ofrecer la bendición de clausura de la Misa, Araceli me preguntó: “Padre, ¿quieres mi bendición?” Me arrodillé junto a la cama y ella puso su mano en mi cabeza. No recuerdo sus palabras, pero recuerdo mis lágrimas.
Luego bendijo a su esposo, sus hijos, sus padres, su hermana y otros parientes. Dos días después ella fue al Señor. Nuestra parroquia celebró su vida con muchas personas que compartieron la inspiración que sintieron al ver a una joven, esposa y madre mostrando tanta fe como ella sufría de cáncer. Como comunidad, lamentamos su fallecimiento, pero celebramos su vida y su fe.

Araceli
I went to the hospital, taking communion to Araceli. She was in hospice care. She was 34, wife and mother of three beautiful children. Our parish took communion to her every day. Six days a week, members of the parish took her communion. One day a week, one of the priests took her communion. She and her husband were catechists in our religious education program.
After giving her communion, her husband said, “Father, we appreciate that she receives communion every day, but could you celebrate Mass for her one day.” I told him to invite her parents and other relatives tomorrow. Also, bring the children. The next day, eleven members of the family came for the Mass. She was extremely weak, and I feared that she might pass before receiving communion. After receiving communion and offering the closing blessing of the Mass, Araceli asked, “Father, do you want my blessing?” I knelt next to the bed and she put her hand on my head. I do not remember her words, but I remember tears running down my cheek.
She then blessed her husband, her children, her parents, her sister and other relatives. Two days later she went to the Lord. Our parish celebrated her life with many people sharing the inspiration they felt as they watched a young woman, wife and mother showing such faith as she suffered with cancer. As a community, we mourned her passing, but celebrated her life and faith.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
