Visiting CMFN Office
I will be going to visit Fr. Tom Florek, SJ., the Director of Catholic Migrant Farmworker Network to get introduced to my new job with CMFN. I will begin work with CMFN after Easter. As I prepare for next week’s visit, I have been reading reports from earlier National consultations of the CMFN. The Second National Consultation, held at Creighton University in 2007, included the following statement:
Declaration of the Community of Migrant Farmworkers and Rural Immigrants
“We are a community of migrant farm workers and rural immigrants, who walk towards the Kingdom without fear, giving witness as actors and not as spectators: a hardworking community in search of justice, mindful of the suffering.
We are bearers of a historical memory, the present, and the journey into the future; being a people that moves forward, breaking barriers and creating solutions.
We are a community committed to the migrant pastoral and we serve with a spirit of communion to a multicultural community. Starting with a commitment to the formation of youth in our community.
We are a farming and rural community that needs to continue its formation.
We are part of this Consulta, and we give witness to what we have heard, seen and shared; we are determined to put into practice and to follow up on what we have lived. In the following we have expressed resolutions of our commitment and our recommendations to our Bishops and other leaders of the Church, in the areas of social justice, community services and pastoral.”

I am thrilled with the opportunity to work on a national level in advocacy for the spiritual care of migrants, refugees, and rural immigrants. The challenges are great, but the people of faith need our support and care.

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
