Los Santos Inocentes
Una de las historias más aterradoras del Nuevo Testamento es la matanza de los niños de Belén por orden del rey Herodes. Las imágenes que evocamos sobre esta parte de las narraciones infantiles en torno al nacimiento de Jesús son difíciles de imaginar. La protección de los niños está escrita en el derecho internacional en los derechos de los refugiados y solicitantes de asilo. Estados Unidos no solo firmó esa legislación en las Naciones Unidas, garantizando los derechos de los niños a no ser separados de sus padres, sino que fue parte de la declaración de que los niños no deberían ser separados de sus padres.
No importa cómo la administración anterior y actual de Trump intente presentar la separación de los niños de sus padres como un elemento disuasorio para los solicitantes de asilo, es contrario al derecho internacional y a la dignidad humana. Esas políticas son recordatorios del trato bárbaro que Herodes dio a los niños.

The Holy Innocents
One of the most frightening stories of the New Testament is the slaughter of the infant children of Bethlehem at the order of King Herod. The images that we conjure up about this part of the infant narratives around the birth of Jesus are hard to imagine. Protecting children is written into international law in the rights of refugees and asylum seekers. The United States not only signed onto such legislation at the United Nations, guaranteeing the rights of children to not be separated from their parents. it was part of declaring that children should not be separated from their parents.
No matter how the previous and present Trump administration tries to present child separation from their parents as a deterrent for asylum seekers, it is counter to international law and human dignity. Such policies are reminders of the barbaric treatment of children by Herod.
