Una oración por la paz
Guerra en Ucrania. Los titulares son tristes. Dónde termina esta tragedia, no lo sabemos. Tememos la escalada de violencia, el trágico costo. El mundo aún lucha por contener el COVID, las autocracias reinan en muchos países, las democracias están divididas y ahora tenemos nueva guerra en Europa. Migrantes y refugiados del mundo ya buscan refugio en naciones abrumadas por inmigrantes. Sabemos que la guerra colocará a millones de migrantes en busca de seguridad. Aquí hay una oración del Papa Francisco, que se encuentra en el sitio web de la USCCB.
Señor, Dios de paz, escucha nuestra súplica.
Hemos intentado muchas veces y durante muchos años resolver nuestros conflictos con nuestras fuerzas, y también con nuestras armas; tantos momentos de hostilidad y de oscuridad; tanta sangre derramada; tantas vidas destrozadas; tantas esperanzas abatidas… Pero nuestros esfuerzos han sido en vano.
Ahora, Señor, ayúdanos tú. Danos tú la paz, enséñanos tú la paz, guíanos tú hacia la paz. Abre nuestros ojos y nuestros corazones, y danos la valentía para decir: «¡Nunca más la guerra!»; «con la guerra, todo queda destruido». Infúndenos el valor de llevar a cabo gestos concretos para construir la paz.
Señor, Dios de Abraham y los Profetas, Dios amor que nos has creado y nos llamas a vivir como hermanos, danos la fuerza para ser cada día artesanos de la paz; danos la capacidad de mirar con benevolencia a todos los hermanos que encontramos en nuestro camino. Haznos disponibles para escuchar el clamor de nuestros ciudadanos que nos piden transformar nuestras armas en instrumentos de paz, nuestros temores en confianza y nuestras tensiones en perdón.
Mantén encendida en nosotros la llama de la esperanza para tomar con paciente perseverancia opciones de diálogo y reconciliación, para que finalmente triunfe la paz. Y que sean desterradas del corazón de todo hombre estas palabras: división, odio, guerra. Señor, desarma la lengua y las manos, renueva los corazones y las mentes, para que la palabra que nos lleva al encuentro sea siempre «hermano», y el estilo de nuestra vida se convierta en shalom, paz, salam. A Prayer for Peace
War in the Ukraine. The headlines are so sad. Where this tragedy ends, we do not know. We fear escalation of violence, the tragic toll it places on us all. The world still struggles to contain COVID, government autocracies reign in many countries, democracies are divided and now we have war in Europe again. Migrants and refugees of the world already seek refuge in nations overwhelmed by immigrants. We know that war will place millions of migrants seeking safety. For the moment, let us pray. Here is a prayer from Pope Francis that is on the USCCB website.
Lord God of peace, hear our prayer!
We have tried so many times and over so many years to resolve our conflicts by our own powers and by the force of our arms. How many moments of hostility and darkness have we experienced; how much blood has been shed; how many lives have been shattered; how many hopes have been buried… But our efforts have been in vain.
Now, Lord, come to our aid! Grant us peace, teach us peace; guide our steps in the way of peace. Open our eyes and our hearts, and give us the courage to say: “Never again war!”; “With war everything is lost”. Instill in our hearts the courage to take concrete steps to achieve peace.
Lord, God of Abraham, God of the Prophets, God of Love, you created us and you call us to live as brothers and sisters. Give us the strength daily to be instruments of peace; enable us to see everyone who crosses our path as our brother or sister. Make us sensitive to the plea of our citizens who entreat us to turn our weapons of war into implements of peace, our trepidation into confident trust, and our quarreling into forgiveness.
Keep alive within us the flame of hope, so that with patience and perseverance we may opt for dialogue and reconciliation. In this way may peace triumph at last, and may the words “division”, “hatred” and “war” be banished from the heart of every man and woman. Lord, defuse the violence of our tongues and our hands. Renew our hearts and minds, so that the word which always brings us together will be “brother”, and our way of life will always be that of: Shalom, Peace, Salaam!

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
