Nuestras hermanas en Juárez
Había una sorpresa muy agradable en nuestras visitas a Juárez. Mientras visitábamos la “Casa Migrante” administrada por la Diócesis de Juárez, conocimos a un impresionante sacerdote que no solo es el capellán de la Casa, sino que también vive en la Casa. Nos habló de un estudio que hizo como seminarista sobre el ministerio a las prostitutas. El principal recurso para su estudio provino de las hermanas Oblatas del Santísimo Redentor. Las hermanas fueron fundadas por los Redentoristas. Aprovechamos una visitar nuestra comunidad hermana. Fue refrescante aprender de su ministerio con mujeres en la periferia extrema de la mayoría de los ministerios religiosos.
La mañana siguiente recibimos una llamada de unas hermanas del Inmaculado Corazón de María invitándonos a desayunar. Las hermanas ICM también fueron fundadas por redentoristas en Monroe, Michigan. Estas hermanas trabajan en las comunidades satélites de Juárez. Trabajan no solo con migrantes, sino que también se dedican a las familias de seres queridos asesinados y “desaparecidos” en Juárez. Ambas comunidades trabajan en la tradición redentorista con los “más abandonados” de la sociedad.
Mientras compartían con nosotros sus historias de su ministerio, me sentí orgulloso del ministerio de nuestras hermanas aquí y me dio una inquietud de ayudarlas en su ministerio. Nuestro estudio continúa. Tenemos más pueblos fronterizos y diócesis para visitar, pero Juárez es el único lugar donde nos hemos encontrado con comunidades hermanas de los Redentoristas.

Our sisters in Juarez
We had a very pleasant surprise on our visits to Juarez. While visiting the Casa Migrante run by the Diocese of Juarez, we met an impressive priest who is not only the chaplain of the Casa, but he resides in the Casa. He told us of research that he did as a seminarian on ministry to prostitutes. The major resource for his study came from the sisters, Oblates of the Most Holy Redeemer. The sisters were founded by the Redemptorists. We took the opportunity to visit our sister community. It was refreshing to learn of their ministry with women on the extreme periphery of most religious ministry.
Early the next morning we received a call from a group of Immaculate Heart of Mary sisters inviting us to breakfast. The IHM sisters were also founded by Redemptorists in Monroe, Michigan. These sisters work in the poor satellite communities of Juarez. They work not only with migrants, but also dedicate themselves to the families of murdered and “disappeared” loved ones in Juarez. Both communities work in Redemptorist tradition with the “most abandoned” of society.
As they shared their stories with us of their ministry, I felt pride in our sisters’ ministry here and inclined to want to help them in their ministry. Our study continues. We have more border towns and dioceses to visit, but Juarez is the first place where we have encountered sister communities to the Redemptorists.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
