(reflexiones sobre los 75 años, ayer)
Este día comenzó tan hermoso. Hay mucho por lo que estar agradecido. Comienza con los padres, la familia y la fe. Estoy especialmente agradecido por la misión, el propósito en la vida. No lo considero solo como mi vocación religiosa, sino la gracia de tener un propósito en la vida. Entiendo que puede que no cambie el mundo, pero puedo hacer una diferencia para aquellos con quienes me encuentro en la vida. Hoy comenzó con muchos saludos en Facebook, mensajes de texto, correos electrónicos y llamadas telefónicas. Hubo saludos de familiares, amigos de la infancia, compañeros Redentoristas y personas encontradas en varios ministerios. Gracias a todos. Hubo saludos de personas que conocí en breves encuentros a través de la pastoral juvenil, pastoral campesina, misiones parroquiales y lugares donde serví por muy poco tiempo. Algunos saludos vinieron de personas a las que nunca conocí personalmente, pero me han conocido en Facebook y en el sitio web padremigrante.org.
Es bueno apartar la mirada de los desafíos y las luchas de la vida para reflexionar sobre el bien. Es fácil decir: “Dios es bueno”. Es más sentarse en paz, reconociendo la bondad en tantas personas. Paso demasiado tiempo preocupándome por cosas que están fuera de mi control. Es bueno dejar esas cosas a un lado. Simplemente estoy disfrutando de este día.
Celebrando con personas que conozco desde hace solo dos semanas.
Hoy fui al Museo Yaqui en Cocorit, Sonora. Fui con treinta estudiantes estudiando inglés. Me pidieron que solo hablara con los estudiantes en inglés. Fue una visita interesante con los estudiantes. Por supuesto, las presentaciones en el museo fueron en español, pero fue agradable responder las preguntas de los estudiantes mientras practicaban sus habilidades en inglés. Este grupo de estudiantes está estudiando para ser maestros. Son estudiantes muy motivados y fue un placer estar con ellos esta mañana.
Después de nuestro viaje al museo, mis anfitriones me llevaron a un restaurante muy agradable para el brunch. Mi pastel de cumpleaños era tres hotcakes con una vela encima. Me dieron una serenata con Las Mañanitas. Una hora y media después, otro grupo me llevó a almorzar. Puede que los haya decepcionado porque pedí un plato muy pequeño para el almuerzo. Por supuesto, hubo un gran pastel de cumpleaños. Necesitaba una siesta por la tarde.
Es agradable tener un día lejos de todas las dificultades de la vida. Mañana podemos volver a mirar nuestra misión, pero hoy fue un día para celebrar las bendiciones de la vida.

(reflections on 75 years, yesterday)
This day began so beautifully. There is so much to be grateful for. It begins with parents, family and faith. I am especially grateful for mission, purpose in life. I do not only consider it as my religious vocation, but the grace of having purpose in life. I understand that I may not change the world, but I can make a difference for those whom I meet in life. Today began with many greetings on Facebook, text messages, emails and phone calls. There were greetings from family, friends from childhood, fellow Redemptorists, and people encountered in various ministries. I cherish them all. There were greetings from people who I met in brief encounters through youth ministry, campesino ministry, parish missions and places where I served for a very short time. Some greetings came from people whom I never met personally, but have met me on Facebook and the padremigrante.org website.
It is good to look away from the challenges and struggles of life to ponder the good. It is easy to say, “God is good.” It is more to sit in peace, recognizing goodness in so many people. I spend too much time worrying about things that are outside of my control. It is good to set those things aside. I am simply enjoying the beginning of this day.
Celebrating with people I have known for only two weeks
Today, I went to the Yaqui Museum in Cocorit, Sonora. I went with thirty students studying English. I was asked to only talk with the students in English. It was an interesting visit with the students. Of course, the presentations in the museum were in Spanish, but it was nice answering the student’s questions as they practiced their English skills. This group of students is studying to become teachers. They are highly motivated students, and it was a joy to be with them this morning.
After our trip to the museum, my hosts took me to a very nice restaurant for brunch. My birthday cake was three hotcakes with a candle on top. I was serenaded with Las Mañanitas. An hour and half later, another group took me to lunch. I may have disappointed them as I ordered a very small plate for lunch. Of course, there was a large birthday cake. I needed a siesta in the afternoon.
It is nice to have a day away from all the difficulties of life. Tomorrow we can look again at our mission, but today was a day to celebrate the blessings of life.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
