Sueños que se rompen en pedazos
FT: 10. Durante décadas, parecía que el mundo había aprendido de tantas guerras y fracasos y se dirigía lentamente hacia diversas formas de integración. Por ejemplo, avanzó el sueño de una Europa unida, capaz de reconocer raíces comunes y de alegrarse con la diversidad que la habita. Recordemos «la firme convicción de los Padres fundadores de la Unión Europea, los cuales deseaban un futuro basado en la capacidad de trabajar juntos para superar las divisiones, favoreciendo la paz y la comunión entre todos los pueblos del continente».
11. Pero la historia da muestras de estar volviendo atrás. Se encienden conflictos anacrónicos que se consideraban superados, resurgen nacionalismos cerrados, exasperados, resentidos y agresivos. En varios países una idea de la unidad del pueblo y de la nación, penetrada por diversas ideologías, crea nuevas formas de egoísmo y de pérdida del sentido social enmascaradas bajo una supuesta defensa de los intereses nacionales.
El título del Capítulo Uno de Fratelli Tutti es siniestro, “Las sombras de un mundo cerrado”. Las palabras fueron duras cuando se publicaron en 2020, pero hoy vivimos en un mundo de “las sombras”. Ya no hay solo ‘signos’ de regresión en las lecciones aprendidas a través de las Guerras Mundiales. Rusia invadió Ucrania.
Desde que comenzó la invasión de Ucrania, he usado la Plegaria Eucarística por la Reconciliación II para todas las Misas. Los invito a considerar la oración expresada en el Prefacio
En verdad es justo y necesario
darte gracias y alabarte,
Dios, Padre todopoderoso,
por todo lo que haces en este mundo,
por Jesucristo, Señor nuestro.
Pues en una humanidad dividida
por las enemistades y las discordias,
sabemos que tú diriges los ánimos
para que dispongan a la reconciliación.
Por tu Espíritu mueves los corazones de los hombres
para que los enemigos vuelvan a la amistad,
los adversarios se den la mano,
los pueblos busquen la concordia.
Con tu acción eficaz consigues, Señor,
que el amor venza al odio,
la venganza deje paso a la indulgencia,
y la discordia se convierta en amor mutuo.

Por eso, con los coros celestiales
te damos gracias continuamente
y en la tierra cantamos sin cesar tu majestad:

SHATTERED DREAMS
FT: 10. For decades, it seemed that the world had learned a lesson from its many wars and disasters, and was slowly moving towards various forms of integration. For example, there was the dream of a united Europe, capable of acknowledging its shared roots and rejoicing in its rich diversity. We think of “the firm conviction of the founders of the European Union, who envisioned a future based on the capacity to work together in bridging divisions and in fostering peace and fellowship between all the peoples of this continent”.
11. Our own days, however, seem to be showing signs of a certain regression. Ancient conflicts thought long buried are breaking out anew, while instances of a myopic, extremist, resentful and aggressive nationalism are on the rise. In some countries, a concept of popular and national unity influenced by various ideologies is creating new forms of selfishness and a loss of the social sense under the guise of defending national interests.
The title of Chapter One of Fratelli Tutti is ominous, “Dark clouds over a closed world.” The words were stark when published in 2020, but we are living today in a world of “shattered dreams.” There are no longer just ‘signs’ of regression in the lessons learned through World Wars. Russia invaded Ukraine.
Since the invasion of the Ukraine began, I have used the Eucharistic Prayer for Reconciliation II for all Masses. I invite you to consider the prayer expressed in the Preface.
It is truly right and just
that we should give you thanks and praise,
O God, almighty Father,
for all you do in this world,
through our Lord Jesus Christ.
For though the human race
is divided by dissension and discord,
yet we know that by testing us
you change our hearts
to prepare them for reconciliation.
Even more, by your Spirit you move human hearts
that enemies may speak to each other again,
adversaries join hands,
and peoples seek to meet together.
By the working of your power
it comes about, O Lord,
that hatred is overcome by love,
revenge gives way to forgiveness,
and discord is changed to mutual respect.
Therefore, as we give you ceaseless thanks
with the choirs of heaven,
we cry out to your majesty on earth,
and without end we acclaim:
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
