Una nueva misión
Padre Migrante, C.Ss.R.
Soy redentorista desde hace 54 años y sacerdote desde hace 49. En mayo cumplo 75 años. Hay amigos que preguntan: “¿Cuándo te vas a jubilar?” Como sacerdote católico y misionero, no hay una respuesta fácil a esa pregunta. No tengo hijos ni nietos. Vivimos en comunidad y podemos liberarnos de compromisos a largo plazo, pero continuamos haciendo ministerio en nuestros años de “vejez”. Mi “ministerio principal” no es muy diferente de lo que he hecho durante muchos años en el ministerio migrante. No he servido en compromisos o administración a largo plazo. En los últimos dos años, asumí compromisos de dos a tres meses para ayudar a los sacerdotes a tomarse un tiempo fuera de su parroquia para estudiar, tomar un año sabático o recuperar la salud.
Los últimos dos años, he trabajado durante dos o tres meses en cinco diócesis diferentes. He trabajado en cinco estados: Virginia, Oregon, Missouri, Oklahoma y Texas. Como muchos de los inmigrantes con los que he trabajado, soy un trabajador temporal.
Hace unos días, el Superior Provincial me envió un mensaje:
“¿Podrías ser libre para pasar cuatro meses en México?”
Nuestra Provincia Redentorista de Denver y la Provincia de México se están preparando para unirse como una sola Provincia. La preparación para unir las provincias se desaceleró durante la pandemia de COVID. A menudo he dicho que espero que comencemos a trabajar juntos antes de que sea demasiado mayor para participar en el ministerio con nuestros hermanos mexicanos. No estoy seguro de cuáles serán mis responsabilidades cuando vaya a México en abril, pero mi deseo de trabajar con mis hermanos mexicanos puede realizarse.

Estoy feliz de anunciar una nueva dirección en nuestro ministerio redentorista con y para los migrantes. La razón por la que me han pedido ser parte de un esfuerzo conjunto entre las dos provincias actuales es mi historia de trabajo con migrantes e inmigrantes. La nueva misión está en manos de Dios, pero yo seré parte de un comité de búsqueda encargado de preparar un ministerio redentorista con los migrantes en México.
Espero trabajar en el comité de búsqueda y compartir nuestros desarrollos, experiencias y planes para el ministerio en los blogs de Padre Migrante. Oren por el éxito de este ministerio y oren por las personas obligadas a abandonar sus países de origen.

A New Mission

I have been a Redemptorist for 54 years, and a priest for 49. In May, I will be 75 years old. My friends ask, “When are you going to retire?” As a Catholic priest, and a missionary, there is no easy answer to that question. I do not have children or grandchildren. We live in community and we may ease out of long-term commitments, but we continue to do ministry in our “senior” years. My “senior ministry” is not much different than what I have done for many years in migrant ministry. I have not served in long-term commitments or administration. In the past two years, I have taken on commitments of two to three months to help priests take time away from their parish for study, a sabbatical or recuperation of health.
The past two years, I have worked for two to three months in five different dioceses. I have worked in five states: Virginia, Oregon, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. Like many of the migrants with whom I have worked, I am a seasonal worker.
A few days ago, Provincial Superior sent me a message:
“Could you be free to spend four months in Mexico?”
Our Redemptorist Province of Denver and the Province of Mexico are preparing to join together as one Province. The preparation for uniting the provinces slowed during the COVID pandemic. I have often said that I hope that we will begin working together before I am too old to participate in ministry with our Mexican confreres. I am not certain what my responsibilities will be as I go to Mexico in April, but my wish to work with my Mexican confreres may be realized.
A New Mission for the Padre Migrante Website
I am happy to announce a new direction in our Redemptorist ministry with and for migrants. The reason why I have been asked to be part of a joint endeavor between the two present provinces is my history of working with migrants and immigrants. The new mission is in God’s hands, but I am to be part of a search committee charged with preparing a Redemptorist ministry with migrants in Mexico.
I look forward to working on the search committee and to share our developments, experiences and plans for ministry on the Padre Migrante blogs. Pray for the success of this ministry, and pray for people forced to leave their countries of origin.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
