El mundo existe para todos
FT. 118: El mundo existe para todos, porque todos los seres humanos nacemos en esta tierra con la misma dignidad. Las diferencias de color, religión, capacidades, lugar de nacimiento, lugar de residencia y tantas otras no pueden anteponerse o utilizarse para justificar los privilegios de unos sobre los derechos de todos. Por consiguiente, como comunidad estamos conminados a garantizar que cada persona viva con dignidad y tenga oportunidades adecuadas a su desarrollo integral.
El Capítulo Tres de Fratelli Tutti cubre la migración, las crisis humanitarias que empujan a las personas a migrar, los desafíos del racismo y la dignidad de todas las personas. Necesitamos reconocer que, si bien todos somos creados iguales, no todos tenemos las mismas oportunidades. Un sabio dijo que “el secreto de una buena vida es elegir sabiamente a tus padres”. Obviamente, nadie elige a sus padres, ni el lugar donde nació, ni su raza, ni su sexo. Sin embargo, “nacemos con la misma dignidad”.
Cada uno de nosotros tenemos dones y talentos en nuestro nacimiento. A veces hay cosas que resultan fáciles en la vida cuando las personas descubren talento en la educación, el arte, la música, el atletismo, las habilidades y la salud. Los desafíos que enfrentamos pueden limitar nuestras respuestas al entorno en el que vivimos. Responder a esas limitaciones forma el carácter y la virtud. Algunos luchan con las limitaciones. Algunos necesitan ayuda con las necesidades básicas de la vida. El valor de nuestra vida no proviene tanto de nuestros logros como de navegar nuestros mayores desafíos.
Los dones y talentos no son simplemente para nuestro propio disfrute. Si tiene buena salud, puede usarse para ayudar a alguien que no tiene tan buena salud. Si experimenta la curación de una enfermedad grave, puede ser una fuente de esperanza para otros que enfrentan una enfermedad similar. El sufrimiento soportado con paciencia y esperanza inspira a todos los que dan testimonio de esa fe.
Recuerdo a menudo a Araceli que mientras celebraba misa junto a su cama poco antes de morir. Después de la bendición final de la Misa, preguntó: “Padre, ¿quiere mi bendición?” Mientras agonizaba, se dio a sí misma. Después de bendecirme, bendijo a sus hijos, a su esposo, a sus padres y a su hermana. Ella nos dio su fe mientras se preparaba para ver al Señor.
Nuestras vidas no son solo para nosotros.

FT.118: The world exists for everyone, because all of us were born with the same dignity. Differences of color, religion, talent, place of birth or residence, and so many others, cannot be used to justify the privileges of some over the rights of all. As a community, we have an obligation to ensure that every person lives with dignity and has sufficient opportunities for his or her integral development.
Chapter Three of Fratelli Tutti covers migration, the humanitarian crises pushing people into migration, the challenges of racism and the dignity of all people. We need to recognize that while all of us are created equal, we do not all have equal opportunity. A wise man said that “the secret to a good life is to choose your parents wisely.” Obviously, no one chooses their parents, or where they were born, or their race or their sex. Yet, “all of us were born with the same dignity.”
We each have gifts and talents at our birth. Sometimes there are things that come easy in life as people discover talent in education, art, music, athletics, skills and health. The challenges that we face can limit our responses to the environment in which we live. Responding to those limitations forms character and virtue. Some struggle with the limitations. Some need help with basic needs of life. The value of our life does not come from our accomplishments as much as navigating our greatest challenges.
The gifts and talents that we have are not simply for our own enjoyment. If one has good health, it can be used to help one who does not have such good health. If one experiences healing of a serious illness, it can be a source of hope for others facing similar illness. Suffering endured with patience and hope inspires all who witness that faith.
I often remember Araceli who as I celebrated Mass at her bedside shortly before she died. After the final blessing of the Mass, she asked, “Padre, do you want my blessing?” As she lay dying, she gave of herself. After blessing me, she blessed her children, her husband, her parents and her sister. She gave us her faith as she prepared to see the Lord.
Our lives are not for ourselves alone.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
