“Nadie debe ser excluido”
“Nadie debe ser excluido. Su proyecto es esencialmente inclusivo y sitúa en el centro a los habitantes de las periferias existenciales. Entre ellos hay muchos migrantes y refugiados, desplazados y víctimas de la trata. Es con ellos que Dios quiere edificar su Reino, porque sin ellos no sería el Reino que Dios quiere”. Este tema se ha repetido muchas veces durante el papado de Francisco, «nadie queda excluido de la alegría reportada por el Señor» (EG. 3) Este es el tema constante de los grupos y programas que ofrecen esperanza a los desesperanzados. El mensaje de Jesús exaltaba constantemente la dignidad de los pobres y marginados. Comió con recaudadores de impuestos, prostitutas y pecadores. Escandalizó a los cómodos andando con los marginados.
La vida de Padre Stuart Long fue probablemente más impresionante que la película reciente, “Fr. Stu”. La historia de su vocación es una de conversión no solo a la fe católica, sino una historia de comprensión de retos, vergüenza, culpa, perdón, enfermedad, rechazo y realización de ser sacerdote. Lo que la película transmitió bien fue cuánto el Padre Stu tuvo que convencer a otros de que no debería ser ‘excluido’ del sacerdocio. La gente tuvo que pasar de verlo solo a través de sus faltas, sus debilidades y enfermedades. Tenían que verlo personalmente. Su sacerdocio fue breve, pero conmovió a muchos por su compasión, confianza en la misericordia de Dios y su sufrimiento.
Es difícil considerar a un migrante hoy sin sentirse abrumado por la cantidad de migrantes en el mundo. Cuando el Papa Francisco dice: “Nadie debe ser excluido”, debemos dejar de considerar la multitud de migrantes. El Reino de Dios incluye a cada uno de los migrantes. Incluye a cada uno de nosotros. Incluye a cada uno que es pecador. Incluye a cada uno de los fieles e infieles.
Si bien el Reino de Dios no es una nación en la tierra, nos esforzamos por hacer que el mundo se parezca más al Reino de Dios. Como dice un himno en inglés: “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.” (“Que haya paz en la tierra, y que empiece por mí”).

“No one must be excluded”
“No one must be excluded. God’s plan is essentially inclusive and gives priority to those living on the existential peripheries. Among them are many migrants and refugees, displaced persons, and victims of trafficking. The Kingdom of God is to be built with them, for without them it would not be the Kingdom that God wants.” (Message, p. 4)
This theme has been repeated many times during the papacy of Francis, “no one is excluded from the joy brought by the Lord”. (EG. 3) This is the constant theme of groups and programs that offer hope to the hopeless. The message of Jesus constantly lifted up the dignity of the poor and the outcast. He ate with tax collectors, prostitutes and sinners. He scandalized the comfortable by walking with the outcasts.
Fr. Stuart Long’s life was probably more impressive than the recent movie, “Fr. Stu”, about his life. His vocation story is one of conversion not only to the Catholic faith, but a story of understanding hardship, shame, guilt, forgiveness, illness, rejection and fulfillment. What the movie conveyed well was how much Fr. Stu had to convince others that he should not be ‘excluded’ from the priesthood. People had to move from seeing him only through his faults, his weaknesses and illness. They had to see him personally. His priesthood was short, but he moved many by his compassion, confidence in the mercy of God and his suffering.
It is difficult to consider a migrant today without being overwhelmed by the numbers of migrants in the world. When Pope Francis says, “No one must be excluded”, we need to remove ourselves from considering the multitude of migrants. The Kingdom of God includes each one of the migrants. It includes each one of us. It includes each one who is a sinner. It includes each one of the faithful and the unfaithful.
While the Kingdom of God is not a nation on earth, we strive to make our world more like the Kingdom of God. As the hymn says: “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.”

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
