El Domingo de Ramos comenzamos la Misa con una multitud a poca distancia de la Iglesia. Cuando entramos a la Iglesia con las palmas levantadas, fue maravilloso ver la Iglesia llena y cantando hermosamente. Atravesando la multitud, acercándonos al altar, estábamos dando gracias a Dios por ayudarnos a superar dos años de participación limitada en nuestra adoración. Cuando llegué al altar, miré a una congregación feliz de estar nuevamente reunida para la Semana Santa. La lectura de la Pasión comenzó bien y la congregación respondió bien al recordar la Pasión de Jesús.
Luego, hubo conmoción cerca de la parte trasera de la iglesia. Un joven sufrió una convulsión. Alguien gritó que necesitaban un paramédico. Inmediatamente cuatro o cinco personas saltaron para ayudar. Hicimos una pausa en la lectura de la Pasión. Mientras cuidaban al joven, fue impresionante reconocer el talento respondiendo, que somos bendecidos en nuestra iglesia. En tres minutos, era obvio que estaba en manos profesionales. Los paramédicos de la comunidad sacaron al joven afuera de la iglesia y pronto llegó una ambulancia.
Tuve que preguntarle a nuestro diácono dónde estábamos en la lectura de la Pasión. Retomamos la lectura. Al principio estábamos distraídos, pero pronto la congregación respondió con más fuerza al escuchar la historia de la Pasión.
Afortunadamente había otro sacerdote concelebrando la Misa conmigo y fue a estar con el joven. Al terminar la lectura de la Pasión, el P. Tom se adelantó y anunció que el joven parecía estar en buena condición y que fue llevado al hospital para observación.
El Domingo de Ramos es una fiesta que comienza con la emoción de la multitud cuando Jesús entró en Jerusalén, pero también recuerda la Pasión de Jesús. Nuestra comunidad reconoció la cruz en la crisis de un feligrés, pero también la gratitud que tenemos al ver el don de tener personas dispuestas y capaces de responder a un momento de necesidad.

Talent in the pews
On Palm Sunday, we began Mass with a large crowd a short distance from the Church. As we entered the Church with palm branches raised, it was wonderful to see the Church full and singing beautifully. Coming through the crowd, approaching the altar, we were giving thanks to God for getting us through two years of limited participation in our worship. When I reached the altar, I looked out on a congregation happy to be back together for Holy Week. The reading of the Passion began well, and the congregation responded well as we remembered the Passion of Jesus.
Then, there was commotion near the back of the church. A young man suffered a seizure. Someone shouted that they needed a paramedic. Immediately four or five people jumped up to help. We paused in reading the Passion. As they cared for the young man, it was impressive recognizing the talent we are blessed with in our church. Within three minutes, it was obvious that he was in good hands of professionals. The paramedics from the community took the young man outside the church, and soon an ambulance arrived.
I had to ask our deacon, where we were in the reading of the Passion. We resumed the reading. At first, we were distracted, but soon our congregation responded more powerfully as we heard the story of the Passion.
Fortunately, there was another priest concelebrating the Mass with me and he went to be with the young man. As we ended the reading of the Passion, Fr. Tom came forward and announced that the young man appeared to be in good condition and that he was taken to the hospital for observation.
Palm Sunday is a feast that begins with the excitement of the crowd as Jesus entered Jerusalem, but also calls to mind the Passion of Jesus. Our community recognized the cross in the crisis of a parishioner, but also the gratitude we have seeing the gift of having people willing and capable responding to a moment of need.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
