“Go and do likewise.” / «Tienes que ir y hacer lo mismo»
FT. 81: La propuesta es la de hacerse presentes ante el que necesita ayuda, sin importar si es parte del propio círculo de pertenencia. En este caso, el samaritano fue quien se hizo prójimo del judío herido. Para volverse cercano y presente, atravesó todas las barreras culturales e históricas. La conclusión de Jesús es un pedido: «Tienes que ir y hacer lo mismo» (Lc 10,37). Es decir, nos interpela a dejar de lado toda diferencia y, ante el sufrimiento, volvernos cercanos a cualquiera. Entonces, ya no digo que tengo “prójimos” a quienes debo ayudar, sino que me siento llamado a volverme yo un prójimo de los otros.
Como el Papa Francisco nos llama a prestar atención a todas las personas como a nuestros prójimos. Él no presenta este mensaje como propio. Se refiere al Evangelio a menudo y trae el mensaje del evangelio para considerar nuestro tiempo y circunstancias. Después de una larga reflexión sobre la parábola del Buen Samaritano, concluye su reflexión con las palabras de Jesús. «Tienes que ir y hacer lo mismo». A medida que avanzamos en nuestras prácticas de Cuaresma, busquemos recibir la gracia necesaria para «Tienes que ir y hacer lo mismo».

“Go and do likewise.”
FT. 81: Jesus asks us to be present to those in need of help, regardless of whether or not they belong to our social group. In this case, the Samaritan became a neighbor to the wounded Judean. By approaching and making himself present, he crossed all cultural and historical barriers. Jesus concludes the parable by saying: “Go and do likewise” (Lk 10:37). In other words, he challenges us to put aside all differences and, in the face of suffering, to draw near to others with no questions asked. I should no longer say that I have neighbors to help, but that I must myself be a neighbor to others.
As Pope Francis calls on us to pay attention to all people as our neighbors. He does not present this message as his own. He refers to the Gospel often and brings the gospel message to consider our time and circumstances. After a long reflection on the parable of the Good Samaritan, he concludes his reflection in the words of Jesus. “Go and do likewise.” As we go through our Lenten practices, let us seek to receive the grace needed to “Go and do likewise.”

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
