Fiesta de los refugiados
En Ramá se ha escuchado un grito,
se oyen llantos y lamentos:
es Raquel que llora por sus hijos
y no quiere que la consuelen,
porque ya están muertos.
Hoy llamemos la atención sobre los refugiados del mundo. José, María y Jesús eran refugiados que huían de un Rey cometiendo la inimaginable masacre de niños. En su mensaje de Navidad, “Urbi et Orbi”, el Papa Francisco llama la atención sobre nuestro cuidado por los refugiados del mundo diciendo: “Se pone a prueba nuestra capacidad de relaciones sociales… Nos hemos habituado de tal manera que inmensas tragedias ya se pasan por alto; corremos el riesgo de no escuchar los gritos de dolor y desesperación de muchos de nuestros hermanos y hermanas”. Llama la atención sobre las víctimas de la violencia, la persecución religiosa y los gobiernos que no protegen a su pueblo. Llamó especial atención a los refugiados de Siria, Irak, Yemen, Palestina, Líbano, Myanmar, Afganistán, Ucrania, Etiopía, países del norte de África, Sudán, Sudán del Sur y personas de gobiernos fallidos en las Américas.
Como misionero redentorista, es un privilegio conocer, vivir y trabajar con tantos cohermanos que también fueron refugiados. Nuestra congregación ha sido bendecida con muchos hombres de Vietnam que ingresaron a los Estados Unidos como refugiados. Estos cohermanos y sus familias nos inspiran a todos en sus experiencias y en su celo. Que Dios bendiga todos nuestros ministerios con migrantes, pero hoy renovemos nuestro compromiso con los refugiados de todo el mundo.

Feast Day for Refugees
A voice was heard in Ramah,
sobbing and loud lamentation;
Rachel weeping for her children,
and she would not be consoled,
since they were no more.
Today let us call attention to refugees of the world. Joseph, Mary and Jesus were refugees, fleeing a King committing the unimaginable massacre of children. In his Christmas message, “Urbi et Orbi” address, Pope Francis calls attention to our care for the refugees of the world. He says, “Our capacity for social relationships is sorely tried…. We have become so used to them that immense tragedies are now being passed over in silence; we risk not hearing the cry of pain and distress of so many of our brothers and sisters.” He calls attention to the victims of violence, religious persecution, and governments that fail to protect their people. He called out particular attention to refugees from Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Palestine, Lebanon, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Ethiopia, countries of North Africa, Sudan, South Sudan and people of failing governments in the Americas.
As a Redemptorist missionary, it is a privilege to know, live and work with so many confreres who were refugees themselves. Our congregation is blessed with many men from Viet Nam who entered the United States as refugees. These confreres and their families inspire all of us in their experiences and in their zeal. May God bless all of our ministries with migrants, but today let us renew our commitment to refugees from all over the world.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
