The Manger is prepared – El pesebre está preparado

The Manger is prepared

Christmas Eve Day. The house is clean. The smells of Christmas are upon us. The tamales are ready. The cookies and breads of the season are baking. The Christmas meal is being prepared. The choirs are ready. Even the “Charlie Brown” tree looks great. The bad news channels are off. Christmas music is everywhere. We have watched the old Christmas movies. Midnight Mass is to be celebrated 5:00 pm and at midnight. The last Posada may be celebrated before Christmas Eve Mass.

Imagine Joseph and Mary on Christmas night. They found lodging in a stable for animals. Joseph prepared a manger. Mary waited, this was her time. The uncertainties of preparing the way of the Lord were to give way to the birth of a child. This child of the promise that God gave to Adam and Eve as they left the garden and the promise given to Abraham and the patriarchs of Israel was to be fulfilled. The world waited and wondered about what was to come.

As you prepare this day, to remember the coming of the Lord, may you soon be singing “Silent Night”, the “First Noel”, “O Holy Night”, and like the shepherds, may you “Go Tell It on the Mountain” that Jesus is born. Today for all the world, let us proclaim, “Joy to the World.”

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
