20. Lent: Let us Dream, a path to a better future – Soñemos Juntos, un camino a un futuro mejor
SOÑEMOS JUNTOS
Mientras nuestro mundo todavía sufre una pandemia, el Papa Francisco dio sus esperanzas de una nueva normalidad a medida que el mundo se recupera de COVID-19 en un libro: “SOÑEMOS JUNTOS, el camino a un futuro mejor”. El libro es el resultado de una serie de conversaciones con el Papa después de un largo período de bloqueo. Ofreceré algunas reflexiones durante los próximos días sobre el “camino hacia un futuro mejor” del Papa.
Con informes sobre la disminución de las muertes por COVID, la disminución de las infecciones y la creciente disponibilidad de vacunas, esperamos que la nueva normalidad llegue pronto. Algunos sueñan una vuelta a lo que era normal antes de la pandemia, pero el Papa Francisco nos anima a soñar de un futuro mejor. Habla de un camino hacia un futuro mejor en términos familiares para aquellos que trabajan en el Ministerio Hispano, pero ajusta la metodología tradicional de VER, JUZGAR, ACTUAR, cambiando el término de JUZGAR a DISCERNIR. Es importante reconocer que nuestro mundo no era perfecto antes de la pandemia y que nuestra nueva normalidad no será perfecta, pero podemos soñar un futuro mejor. Sin embargo, no se garantiza un futuro mejor si no estamos dispuestos a trabajar para crear un futuro mejor.
Las dos iglesias donde celebré misa ayer tenían anuncios de que pronto se darían las vacunas en una de las iglesias y que la gente podía llamar a las oficinas para hacer una cita. Fue una buena noticia en las misas españolas.
Dije que COVID me ha bendecido dos veces. Tuve la enfermedad en noviembre y tuve la bendición de recuperarme sin sufrir mayores complicaciones. Mi segunda bendición vino cuando recibí la vacuna. Hay un alivio emocional cuando uno recibe la vacuna. Hay menos preocupación y una oportunidad para visitar a los seres queridos que no se pudieron visitar durante la pandemia.
Muchas personas expresaron alivio de que la vacuna esté disponible en esa comunidad, y se sintieron alentadas al escuchar una recomendación de vacunarse por alguien que conocen. Hay mucha desinformación y confusión sobre las vacunas. El sueño de un futuro mejor está cerca. Mi oración es que pronto podamos caminar por el camino hacia un futuro mejor.

While our world is still suffering from a pandemic, Pope Francis gave his hopes for a new normal as the world recovers from COVID-19 a book: “Let Us Dream, the path to a better future.” The book is the result of a series of conversations with the Pope after a lengthy time of lockdown. I will offer some reflections over the next few days on the Pope’s “path to a better future”
With reports of declining COVID deaths, declining infections and the increasing availability of vaccines, we hope that the new normal leads us to a better future. Some may dream of returning to what was normal before the pandemic, but Pope Francis encourages us to dream of a better future. He speaks of a path to a better future in terms familiar to those working in Hispanic Ministry, but he adjusts the traditional SEE, JUDGE, ACT methodology, especially as he changes the term to JUDGE to DISCERN. It is important to recognize that our world was not perfect before the pandemic and that our new normal will not be perfect, but we can look forward to a better future. Yet, a better future is not guaranteed if we are not willing to work to create a better future.
The two churches where I said Mass yesterday had announcements that there were going to be vaccinations given at one of the churches soon and that people could call the offices to make an appointment. It was welcome news in the Spanish Masses.
I said that I have been twice blessed by COVID. I had the illness in November I was blessed to recover without suffering major complications. My second blessing came when I received the vaccine. There is an emotional relief when one does receive the vaccine. There is less worry and an opening for meeting loved ones who one could not visit during the pandemic.
Many people expressed relief that the vaccine is available in that community, and they were encouraged by hearing a recommendation to get vaccinated by someone they know. There is a lot of misinformation and confusion about the vaccines. The dream of a better future is at hand. My prayer is that soon we may be able to walk a path to a better future.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
