Cuando hay un lío
No comencé bien mi viaje para visitar con CMFN en Chicago. Mi día comenzó cuando me desperté treinta minutos más tarde de lo planeado. Había puesto mi alarma para las 4:30 y me desperté a las 5:00 am. Puse mi alarma la noche anterior, pero era para las 4:30 pm. Entonces, apúrate, apúrate al aeropuerto de Nueva Orleans. Estacioné mi auto y corrí hacia el van de transbordar y solo cuando llegué al aeropuerto, me di cuenta de que dejé mi abrigo en el auto. Tan ansioso como estaba, no me di cuenta de que dejé mi teléfono celular en el van hasta que llegué a seguridad. Sin teléfono, sin abrigo y me voy a Chicago en febrero.
Luego leí dos artículos en el New York Times sobre inmigrantes. Uno era sobre los peligros de cruzar la frontera de Mexico y los Estados Unidos. Lo sé bien por mis visitas a la frontera durante el verano pasado. Luego hubo un artículo sobre las violaciones del trabajo infantil que afectan a un gran número de niños inmigrantes. El artículo me recordó que vi a tantos niños trabajando en los campos de Yuma cuando visité allí en noviembre.
Mis “cosas que van mal” son inconvenientes. Llegaré a Chicago. No me congelaré. Arreglaré las cosas con mi teléfono. Cuando las cosas van mal en nuestras vidas, recordemos a aquellos cuyas “cosas van mal” son peligrosas, incluso amenazan la vida.
Oren por mi viaje con gente de CMFN, pero oren más por los que experimentan peligro.

When things go wrong
I did not begin my trip well for my visit with CMFN in Chicago. My day began when I awoke thirty minutes later than I planned. I had set my alarm for 4:30 and awoke at 5:00 am. I set my alarm the night before, but it was for 4:30 pm. So, rush, rush to the New Orleans airport. I parked my car and ran to the shuttle, and only when I arrived at the airport, I realized that I left my coat in the car. As flustered as I was, I did not realize that I left my cell phone in the shuttle until I arrived at security. No phone, no coat and I am going to Chicago in February.
Then I read two articles in the New York times about immigrants. One was about the perils of crossing the Mexico/U.S. border. I know that well from my visits to the border over the past summer. Then there was an article about child labor violations affecting large numbers of immigrant children. The article called to mind my seeing children working in the fields in Yuma when I visited there in November.
My “things going wrong” are an inconvenience. I will arrive in Chicago. I will not freeze. I will get things worked out about my phone. When things go wrong in our lives, let us remember those whose “things going wrong” are dangerous, even life threatening.
Pray for my trip with people from CMFN, but pray more for those struggling to survive each day.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
