Entender la Emigración
He escrito los blogs de los últimos tres días sobre intentar caminar con los emigrantes. ¿Podemos entender la decisión de emigrar? Ninguno de nosotros crece en una familia perfecta, pero es nuestra familia. El hogar que conocemos es nuestro hogar, sin importar cuán humilde o grandioso sea. Nuestra ciudad, estado y país es lo que conocemos. Nuestra escuela, iglesia y lugar de trabajo es donde vivimos. Ha habido momentos buenos y momentos difíciles, pero qué nos motiva para dejar todo lo que nos es familiar, cruzar ríos, desiertos, montañas y océanos, arriesgar la vida para ir a un lugar desconocido en busca de refugio.
Cada emigrante tiene su propia historia. La mayoría de las historias son convincentes. Algunos son aterradores y deprimentes. Para algunos la decisión de emigrar puede ser una solución, para otros una ilusión. Para todos los emigrantes hay peligros. El camino comienza en la esperanza, se sostiene en la fe y se realiza con la ayuda en el camino. Ministrar a los emigrantes nos involucra en su viaje. Es un ministerio del momento, y el ministro hace lo que puede para traer dignidad a aquellos en el camino.
La respuesta a mi pregunta, “¿podemos entender emigración?” es “NO”. No se trata de entender la emigración. Es más sencilla. ¿Podemos amar al emigrante? Jesús nos dio un nuevo mandamiento. “Ámense unos a los otros, como yo los he amado”. Cuando dijo: “Ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo”, nos dijo que el prójimo del hombre golpeado y robado era el samaritano. Nos dijo que seamos buenos samaritanos.
Mientras escuchamos historias sobre personas en nuestras fronteras, no hay respuestas fáciles. No podía pretender saber qué hacer por todos ellos. Solo oro para que todos podamos encontrar formas de amarlos como Jesús nos ha amado.

Understanding Emigration
I have written the last three day’s blogs about trying to walk with emigrants. Can we understand the decision to emigrate? None of us grows up in a perfect family, but it is our family. The home that we know is our home, no matter how humble or grand. Our city, state and country are what we know. Our school, church and workplace are where we live. There have been good times and difficult times, but what can move us to leave everything that is familiar to us, to cross rivers, deserts, mountains and oceans, to risk one’s life to go to a place unknown for refuge.
Each emigrant has his or her own story. Most of the stories are compelling. Some are frightening and depressing. For some, the decision to emigrate may be a solution, for others an illusion. For all emigrants there are dangers. The journey begins in hope, is sustained by faith and is realized with help along the way. Ministering to emigrants engages us in their journey. It is a ministry of the moment, and the minister does what he or she can to bring dignity to those on the journey.
The answer to my question, “can we be understanding of emigration?” is NO. It is not about understanding emigration. It is more simple than that. Can we love the emigrant? Jesus gave us a new commandment at the Last Supper. “Love one another, as I have loved you.” When he said, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself, ” he told us that the neighbor to man who was beaten and robbed was the Samaritan. He told us to be good Samaritans.
As we hear stories about people on our borders, there are no easy answers. I could not pretend to know what to do for all of them. I just pray that we all may find ways to love them as Jesus has loved us.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
