Es hora de volver a conectar
Han pasado tres semanas desde mi último blog para el Padre Migrante. Necesitaba un descanso. No lo planeé, pero estoy listo para comenzar los blogs nuevamente. Durante los últimos tres años, he escrito más de setecientos blogs. Algunos de ustedes recordarán que en más de una ocasión escribí sobre mi esperanza de escribir un libro. Durante COVID, intenté dos veces ordenar mis pensamientos para un libro. Escribí en 2020 y 2021 que quería escribir una secuela de mi primer libro, La Fe del Migrante. Incluso le puse un título: Camina con mi pueblo. El título vino del P. Enrique López, un sacerdote que fue mi mentor cuando comencé a trabajar en el Ministerio Hispano.
En el otoño, en mi trabajo con la Red Católica Campesino Migrante, dirigí un taller sobre el tema “acompañamiento”. La palabra tiene un significado especial en el Ministerio Hispano. En el Plan Pastoral Nacional para el Ministerio Hispano, la palabra aparece casi 80 veces en un documento de sesenta páginas. Fue un concepto que el P. López repetía constantemente. Honestamente, si usara esa palabra, probablemente nunca tendría el impacto de su afirmación: “Si no caminas con mi pueblo, no te molestes en aprender español”.
“Camina con mi pueblo” ha sido un mantra para mí. El ministerio hispano no es solo predicar o enseñar. No es solamente ayudar a las personas en crisis ni de prepararlas para los sacramentos. El ministerio hispano se trata de entablar una relación. Caminar con migrantes, emigrantes, inmigrantes y sus familias es mi vida, y ahora estoy a punto de completar mi libro.
Quizás se pregunten sobre la distinción que hago sobre quiénes son mi pueblo como migrantes, emigrantes, inmigrantes y sus familias. Puede parecer técnico, pero entender mal quiénes son estas personas permite que personas de corazón endurecido nos manipulen emocionalmente. Los próximos días, abordaré cada uno de estos, para que cuando mi libro se imprima, usted pueda tener la curiosidad de considerar caminar con mi gente.
Mi libro todavía tiene algunos obstáculos, pero estoy listo para superarlos. Le haré saber si se imprime y cuándo. Agradezco a todas las personas que me han ayudado en el camino.

Time to reconnect
It has been three weeks since my last blog for Padre Migrante. I needed a break. I did not plan it, but I am ready to begin the blogs again. Over the past three years, I have written over seven hundred blogs. Some of you may recall that on more than one occasion, I wrote about my hope to write a book. During COVID, I made an attempt twice to get my thoughts together for a book. I wrote in 2020 and 2021 that I wanted to write a sequel to my first book, Migrant Faith. I even had a title for it, Walk with My People. The title came from Fr. Enrique Lopez, a priest who was a mentor to me, as I began to work in Hispanic Ministry.
In the Fall, in my work with Catholic Migrant Farmworker Network, I led a workshop on the theme of “Accompaniment”. The word has a special significance in Hispanic Ministry. In the National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic Ministry, the word appears almost 80 times in a sixty-page document. It was a concept that Fr. Lopez constantly repeated. Honestly if he used that word, it probably would never have the impact of his statement, “If you don’t walk with my people, don’t bother to learn Spanish.”
Walk with my people has been a mantra for me. Hispanic ministry is not about preaching or teaching. It is not about helping people in crisis or preparing people for the sacraments. Hispanic ministry is about entering a relationship. Walking with migrants, emigrants, immigrants and their families is my life, and now I am about to complete my book.
You may wonder about the distinction that I make about who are my people as migrants, emigrants, immigrants and their families. It may sound technical, but misunderstanding who these people are allows us to be manipulated emotionally by people of hardened hearts. The next few day, I will address each of these, so that when my book does go to press, you may be curious enough to consider walking with my people.
My book still has some hurdles, but I am ready to jump those hurdles. I will let you know if and when it goes to print. I thank all the people who have helped me along the way.

Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
