Cosas nuevas y cosas antiguas
“Todo escriba instruido en las cosas del Reino de los cielos es semejante al padre de familia, que va sacando de su tesoro cosas nuevas y cosas antiguas”. (Mt. 13:52)
Cuando consideré el Evangelio de ayer, no pude evitar pensar en cuántas personas encuentran difícil honrar tanto las “cosas nuevas” como las “cosas antiguas”. Debería ser reconfortante saber que el reino de los cielos incluye tanto lo nuevo como lo viejo. Lamentablemente, en lugar de honrar tanto a lo nuevo como a lo antiguo, hay algunos líderes religiosos que consideran que la nuevo y la antiguo están en desacuerdo en la Iglesia. Es como si lo nuevo y lo viejo fueran enemigos, incapaces de trabajar juntos.
El dolor de la división dentro de la Iglesia preocupa a tantas personas a las que amo. Dado que el mundo político está en crisis, se necesita un buen ejemplo de unir lo viejo y lo nuevo. La tradición es la historia de santidad, perdón, esperanza y fe. El Espíritu está presente en misión y celo para participar en los desafíos que enfrenta nuestro mundo frente a los disturbios, el cambio climático y la migración global.
Lo viejo y lo nuevo son parte del Reino de los Cielos. Honremos a ambos.

The new and the old
“Every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven
is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.” (Mt. 13:52)
When I considered yesterday’s Gospel, I could not help but think of how many people find it difficult to honor both the “new” and the “old”. It should be comforting that the kingdom of heaven includes both the new and the old. Sadly, rather than honoring both the new and the old, there are some religious leaders who see the new and the old as being at odds with each other in the Church. It is as though the new and the old are enemies, incapable of working together.
The pain of division within the Church is troubling so many people whom I love. As the political world is in turmoil, good example of bringing together the old and the new is needed. Tradition is the story of holiness, forgiveness, hope and faith. The Spirit is present in mission and zeal to engage in the challenges that our world faces in the face of unrest, climate change and global migration.
The old and the new are part of the Kingdom of Heaven. Let us honor both.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
