La fe de los pobres
En varias ocasiones, después de que Jesús dio vista a los ciegos, oído a los sordos, curación de los enfermos, movilidad al paralítico y perdón al pecador, alabó a los pobres por su fe: “Tu fe te ha sanado. ” Tantas veces reconoció la fe de los pobres. Está en contraste con los fariseos y los saduceos. También debería destacarse para los líderes de la fe de hoy. El Papa Francisco reconoce la fe de los pobres, (EG 200). Sin embargo, con demasiada frecuencia a los pobres les resulta difícil que sus hijos reciban los sacramentos de la iniciación.
Cuando pregunté a los campesinos migrantes ¿qué más podía hacer por ellos que ofrecer las Misas en los campamentos durante la cosecha de cerezas? Una mujer dijo: “Que sea nuestro sacerdote. A nuestros niños se les niega la Primera Comunión, porque las clases son en momentos en los que campesinos no pueden participar”. Los trabajadores migrantes tienen fe, pero carecen de oportunidades en muchos de nuestros programas sacramentales.
Necesitamos reconocer la fe de los pobres. Necesitamos reconocer su fe y salir de nuestro camino para llevarlos a la Eucaristía y otros sacramentos. Cuando uno camina con los pobres, su fe será evidente.

The faith of the poor
On several occasions, after Jesus gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, healing of the sick, mobility to the paralytic, and forgiveness to the sinner, he commended the poor for their faith, “Go, your faith has healed you.” So many times, he recognized the faith of the poor. It stands in contrast to the Pharisees and the Sadducees. It also should stand out to leaders of faith today. Pope Francis recognizes the faith of the poor, (EG 200). Yet, too often the poor find it difficult for their children to receive the sacraments of initiation.
When I asked migrant farmworkers what more I could do for them than offering the Masses that took place in camps during the cherry harvest. A woman said, “Be our priest. Our children are denied First Communion, because classes are at times when we cannot participate.” The migrant workers have faith, but lack opportunity in many of our sacramental programs.
We need to recognize the faith of the poor. We need to recognize their faith and go out of our way to bring them to the Eucharist and other sacraments. When one walks with the poor, their faith will be obvious.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
