Recordar momentos especiales en la vida.
Hace dos días celebramos el día de Martin Luther King. Durante el día, pensé en algunos de mis recuerdos de mi juventud. Recordé cosas generales sobre el tiempo que uno puede leer o aprender a través de las celebraciones del día. Hubo muchos dichos del Dr. King que son inspiradores hoy en día, pero en su tiempo, fueron inspiradores para algunos y aterradores para otros. Los acontecimientos de las décadas de 1950 y 1960 dieron forma a mi generación en los años siguientes. El lunes, recordé especialmente los momentos de mi vida que fueron moldeados por el Dr. King y algunos de los desafíos difíciles de esa época.
Hay ciertos momentos que uno nunca olvidará. “¿Dónde estabas cuando John F. Kennedy fue asesinado?” “¿Dónde estabas cuando Martin Luther King murió?” “¿Dónde estabas cuando el primer hombre pisó la luna?” “¿Dónde estabas cuando las torres cayeron el 11 de septiembre?” “¿Cuándo supo que estaba enamorado de su cónyuge?” Momentos de horror, momentos de bendición, momentos de dolor y momentos de gran alegría componen la historia de nuestras vidas. Algunos de esos momentos los celebramos, otros los recordamos superando nuestras emociones y tomando decisiones y compromisos importantes de nuestra vida.
Mientras recordamos al Dr. Martin Luther King y a aquellos cuyas vidas influyeron nuestras vidas. Consideremos los momentos en los que Dios se mueve entre nosotros en nuestras dificultades, desafíos, éxitos y alegrías personales que forman la historia de nuestra vida personal. Algunos de esos momentos los guardamos en el silencio de nuestro propio corazón, pero otros los compartimos con los demás, particularmente con aquellos a quienes amamos. Que tus momentos memorables de la vida te lleven a la alegría y la esperanza.

Remembering particular moments in life
Two days ago, we celebrate Martin Luther King day. During the day, I thought about a few of my memories of my childhood and adolescence. I remembered general things about the time that one may read about, or learn about through celebrations of the day. There were many sayings of Dr. King that are inspiring today, but at the time, they were inspirational to some and frightening to others. The events of the 1950’s and 1960′ shaped my generation for years to come. On Monday, I especially remembered moments in my life that were shaped by Dr. King and some of the difficult challenges of that time.
There are certain moments that one will never forget. “Where were you when you heard that John F. Kennedy was shot?” “Where were you when you heard that Martin Luther King was killed?” “Where were you when the first man walked on the moon?” “Where were you when the towers fell on Sept. 11?” “When did you know that you were in love with your spouse?” Moments of horror, moments of blessing, moments of pain, and moments of great joy make up the story of our lives. Some of those moments we celebrate, others we recall overcoming our emotions and making important decisions and commitments of our lives.
As we remember Dr. Martin Luther King and those whose lives influenced so many, let us consider the moments of God moving among us in our personal hardships, challenges, successes and joys that form our personal life story. Some of those moments we guard in the silence of our own hearts, but others we share with others, particularly those whom we love. May your memorable moments of life lead you to joy and hope.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
