El evangelio de Juan comienza: “En el principio era el Verbo”. Nuestra misión comienza llamando la atención sobre las “Buenas Nuevas” presentadas en la Biblia. El mundo necesita buenas noticias hoy.
Las imágenes de personas que huyen de situaciones desesperadas en las naciones del mundo que no pueden o no quieren brindar dignidad y seguridad a sus ciudadanos presentan un desafío abrumador para las buenas personas del mundo. La migración global ejerce presión sobre las naciones que reciben a los migrantes del mundo y desafía nuestra respuesta católica al ofrecer una opción preferencial para los pobres. El ministerio para migrantes e inmigrantes a menudo se ve como un problema que debemos resolver en lugar de una oportunidad para ver el rostro de Cristo. Jesús dijo: “Cuando era forastero, me acogisteis …”
Una pandemia hace estragos y las divisiones están siendo avivadas por políticos e incluso personas dentro de la Iglesia. Nuestra nación está dividida y las familias están sometidas a una gran tensión.
Cuando nuestro Papa habla de alegría, esperanza, misericordia, y defiende a los pobres, los migrantes y los de la periferia, hay voces de condena de él dentro de la comunidad de fe.
Jesús le preguntó al joven por qué lo llamaba bueno. Jesús dijo: “Dios es bueno”. Recordemos las muchas formas en que se nos muestra la bondad de Dios. Necesitamos imitar al padre pródigo. Necesitamos ver a Jesús en los que tienen hambre, sed, desnudos, en la cárcel y en un extraño. Necesitamos ver el mundo que necesita nuestro cuidado y atención.
Nuestro primer tema para la misión es ver lo bueno que nos rodea. Pasemos por alto los males de la vida y aprendamos la misericordia y el amor de Dios.

A Mission for a Wounded World, “The Word of God.”
The gospel of John begins, “In the beginning was the Word.” Our mission begins by calling attention to the “Good News” presented in the Bible. The world needs good news today.
The images of people fleeing desperate situations in the nations of the world that are unable or unwilling to provide dignity and security to its citizens presents a daunting challenge to good people of the world. Global migration places strain on the nations that receive the worlds migrants and challenges our Catholic response in offering a preferential option for the poor. Ministry for migrants and immigrants is often seen as a problem that we need to solve rather than an opportunity to see the face of Christ. Jesus said, “When I was a stranger, you welcomed me…”
A pandemic rages and divisions are being stoked by politicians and even people within the Church. Our nation is divided, and families are under great stress.
When our Pope speaks of joy, hope, mercy, and he defends the poor, the migrant and those on the periphery, there are voices of condemnation of him within the faithful community.
Jesus asked the young man why he called him good. Jesus said, “God is good.” Let us recall the many ways that God’s goodness is shown to us. We need to imitate the Prodigal father. We need to see Jesus in those who are hungry, thirsty, naked, in prison and a stranger. We need to see the world that is needing our care and attention.
Our first theme for our mission is seeing the good around us. Let us overlook the wrongs of life and learn the mercy and love of God.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
