Imagina cuatro millones de refugiados
Es difícil imaginar el número de refugiados que huyen de Ucrania en seis semanas. Hay informes de que una de cada cuatro personas ha sido desplazada por la guerra en Ucrania. Las feas consecuencias de la guerra son difíciles de observar, día tras día. Mientras vemos destrucción, personas en albergues que no pueden salir, campos de refugiados desbordados y esfuerzos heroicos de personas y naciones que reciben a esos refugiados, por difícil que sea imaginar la realidad, más difícil es imaginar una solución para tantos que buscan asilo. Muchos quieren regresar, pero ¿habrá nuevamente un lugar para ellos en su país de origen?
Mientras vemos las crudas realidades de la guerra en Ucrania, hay refugiados y solicitantes de asilo en África, Asia, Medio Oriente, América del Sur y América Central que han estado y están huyendo de guerras, violencia y desastres. Muchos huyen de la destrucción de sus comunidades y tienen gobiernos que no abordan sus necesidades. En muchas de estas naciones, la crisis se ha prolongado durante muchos años.
Todas las personas deben trabajar por la paz. A medida que Ucrania nos hace tomar conciencia del sufrimiento, necesitamos que los líderes políticos hagan su trabajo para buscar el fin de la violencia. Sin embargo, necesitamos más de cada persona en la tierra. Cuando Caín preguntó: “¿Soy yo el guardián de mi hermano?”, las Escrituras nos dejaron esa respuesta. Necesitamos ver a los refugiados del mundo como nuestro hermano y hermana. Oren y trabajen por la paz en Ucrania, y permitan que su tragedia nos abra los ojos a los demás refugiados del mundo que buscan refugio y asilo.

Imagine four million refugees
The numbers of refugees fleeing Ukraine in six weeks is hard to imagine. There are reports that one out of every four people have been displaced by the war in the Ukraine. The ugly aftermath of war is difficult to watch, day after day. As we see destruction, people in shelters unable to leave, overwhelmed refugee camps, and heroic efforts made by people and nations receiving those refugees, as difficult as it is to imagine the reality, it is more difficult to imagine a resolution for so many seeking asylum. Many want to return, but will there be a place for them in their home nation again?
As we see stark realities of war in Ukraine, there are refugees and asylum seekers in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, South America and Central America who have been and still are fleeing wars, violence and disasters. So many flee the destruction of their communities and have governments that fail to address their needs. In many of these nations, the crisis has been going on for many years.
All people need to work for peace. As Ukraine brings an awareness of the suffering to us, we need political leaders to do their jobs to seek an end to the violence. Yet, we need more from each and every person on earth. When Cain asked, “Am I my brother’s keeper?”, the Scriptures left that answer to us. We need to see the refugees of the world as our brother and sister. Pray for and work for peace in the Ukraine, and let their tragedy open our eyes to the other refugees of the world seeking refuge and asylum.

We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
