Feliz Día de San Patricio
Feliz Día de San Patricio a todos mis familiares y amigos irlandeses e irlandeses-estadounidenses. No es solo un gran día para vestirse de verde, sino un día para recordar la fe que se nos transmitió a tantos de nosotros. Siempre celebramos el San Patricio en nuestra casa y en nuestra escuela. En el seminario era un día de fiesta sin clases y se jugaba el clásico baloncesto de los irlandeses contra el mundo. Fue un día en que se suspendió por un día el ayuno y la abstinencia de la Cuaresma. Para nosotros fue un día de orgullo nacional, y si bien recordamos nuestro catolicismo, no fue tanto una fiesta religiosa como una celebración de nuestra herencia.
Como trabajo con migrantes e inmigrantes de América Central y del Sur, es importante celebrar los días festivos de los países y culturas con los que trabajo. La fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe tiene un papel importante en el ministerio hispano, pero hay muchas otras fiestas que celebran ciertas comunidades. Algunas de las fiestas son nacionales y otras son locales o celebradas por grupos indígenas particulares.
En cada celebración, honramos a las personas que han venido de todas partes del mundo. Que nuestras celebraciones de fiestas patronales de naciones y grupos nunca pierdan el carácter religioso de recordarnos nuestra herencia católica.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all my Irish and Irish-American family members and friends. It is not only a great day to be wearing the green, but a day to remember the faith passed on to so many of us. We always celebrated St. Patrick in our home and in our school. In the seminary, it was a holiday with no classes and there was the classic basketball game of the Irish against the world. It was a day when the fast and abstinence of Lent was suspended for a day. For us it was a day of national pride, and while we remembered our Catholicism, it was not so much a religious feast as a celebration of our heritage.
As I work with migrants and immigrants from Central and South America, it is important to celebrate the feast days of the countries and cultures with whom I work. The feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe plays a significant role in Hispanic ministry, but there are many other feasts that certain communities celebrate. Some of the feasts are national, and others are local or celebrated by particular indigenous groups.
In each celebration, we honor the people who have come here from all over the world. May our celebrations of patronal feasts of nations and group never lose the religious character of reminding us of our Catholic heritage.

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
