Carisma y Misión
La Conferencia de Redentoristas de América del Norte, considerando nuestro carisma para trabajar con los pobres y los más abandonados, está explorando formas de responder a la compleja realidad de la migración en América del Norte. Estamos agradecidos por los servidores y líderes dedicados particularmente en la frontera de los Estados Unidos y México por ayudarnos a comprender los desafíos de responder a los migrantes en la frontera hoy. Buscamos formas de ofrecernos en misión a la gente en movilidad.
Nuestro carisma para trabajar con los “más abandonados” es una visión inclusiva que incluye muchas misiones o proyectos para servir a los abandonados. Servir al migrante y al inmigrante no es nuevo para nuestra Congregación, ya que los Redentoristas llegaron a América del Norte que también eran inmigrantes. Nuestro ministerio con los inmigrantes ha sido reconocido por la canonización de San Juan Neumann y la beatificación del Beato Francisco Seelos. Nuestro ministerio con inmigrantes condujo al establecimiento de parroquias y casas misioneras en muchas ciudades de los Estados Unidos y Canadá.
La naturaleza inclusiva de buscar trabajo con los “más abandonados” incluye trabajar con inmigrantes recién llegados, pero nuestro trabajo a menudo se ha centrado en involucrar a las personas en la vida de las iglesias locales en nuestras naciones. La atención a los trabajadores migrantes y refugiados ha sido constante, pero muchas veces atendida por la iniciativa personal de hombres que trabajan en proyectos solos o con laicos voluntarios y miembros de otras comunidades religiosas. Honramos a grandes hombres de nuestra comunidad que ministraron a lo largo de la frontera de Texas/México y en el área de Fresno, California que viajaron con migrantes durante las temporadas de cosecha. Experimentaron formas de llegar a los inmigrantes con “capillas de ruedas”, que eran capillas móviles que se movían con los trabajadores agrícolas en las décadas de 1920 y 1930. Siempre ha habido misiones y proyectos particulares de los Redentoristas al servicio de las personas con movilidad.
Hoy consideramos nuestra respuesta a la realidad migratoria de hoy que el Papa Benedicto XVI llamó, “estamos ante un fenómeno social que marca época, que requiere una fuerte y clarividente política de cooperación internacional para afrontarlo debidamente” (Caritas in veritate, 62) Reconocemos la pastoral migratoria como parte esencial de nuestras diversas Provincias de América del Norte en el cuidado de los “más abandonados”.

Charism and Mission
The North American Conference of Redemptorists, considering our charism to work with the poor and the most abandoned, is exploring ways to respond to the complex reality of migration in North America. We are grateful for dedicated servants and leaders particularly on the border of the United States and Mexico for helping us understand the challenges of responding to migrants on the border today. We seek ways to offer ourselves in mission to people of mobility.
Our charism to work with the “most abandoned” is an inclusive vision that includes many missions or projects to serve the abandoned. Serving the migrant and the immigrant is not new to our Congregation, as Redemptorists arrived in North America who were immigrants themselves. Our ministry with immigrants has been recognized by the canonization of St. John Neumann and beatification of Blessed Francis Seelos. Our ministry with immigrants led to the establishment of parishes and mission houses in many cities in the United States and Canada.
The inclusive nature of seeking to work with the “most abandoned” includes working with recent arrivals of immigrants, but our work often has focused on engaging people in the life of the local churches in our nations. Attention to migrant workers and refugees has been constant, but often served by the personal initiative of men working on projects alone or with lay volunteers and members of other religious communities. We honor great men of our community who ministered along the Texas / Mexico border and in the area of Fresno, California who traveled with migrants during harvest seasons. They experimented in ways of reaching out to migrants with “chapels on wheels” that were mobile chapels moving with farmworkers in the 1920’s and 30’s. There have always been particular missions and projects of Redemptorists serving people of mobility.
Today we consider our response to the migration reality of today that Pope Benedict XVI called, “a social phenomenon of epoch-making proportions that requires bold, forward looking policies of international cooperation if it is to be handled effectively” (Caritas in veritate, 62). We recognize migration ministry as an essential part of our various Provinces of North America caring for the “most abandoned.”

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
