Ser audaces y creativos en la tarea de repensar … (EG.33)
Ayer llamé la atención sobre la exhortación del Papa Francisco, la Alegría del Evangelio: “ser audaces y creativos en esta tarea de repensar los objetivos, las estructuras, el estilo y los métodos evangelizadores de las propias comunidades.” (EG. 33) Tal audacia y creatividad son absolutamente necesarias al trabajar con migrantes, refugiados e inmigrantes. Esto no es solo cierto en los desafíos de nuestro tiempo. Tal audacia ha sido parte del alcance misionero desde que los Apóstoles dejaron la sala en Pentecostés. Es obra del Espíritu Santo.
Los grandes momentos de apoyo a la gente después de un desastre ganan atención el las noticias. Se informa sobre el movimiento de gobiernos y servicios de ayuda como Catholic Relief Services y otros servicios religiosos y sociales después de huracanes, terremotos, genocidios, guerras y ataques terroristas. Este alivio es necesario, pero el ministerio debe seguir con formas “audaces y creativas” de evangelizar y llevar esperanza a las personas que sufren, no solo en el momento del desastre, sino después de los desastres.
Vivimos tiempos extraordinarios. Deseo considerar los desafíos de nuestro tiempo que afectan a los fieles católicos y al ministerio de hoy. Necesitamos nuevos “métodos y expresión” en las prácticas de nuestra fe, como lo pidió el Papa Juan Pablo II. La prisa por restablecer las obligaciones y exigencias de los fieles no escucha al Espíritu Santo. La vida antes de nuestros desafíos actuales nunca ha sido perfecta. Necesitamos reconsiderar las prácticas mantenidas desde hace mucho tiempo. Debemos reconocer que algunas de nuestras preocupaciones de hoy eran preocupaciones antes de que los desastres nos abrumaran. Necesitamos no solo restaurar las buenas prácticas del pasado, sino que necesitamos renovar las prácticas fallidas y necesitamos nuevas formas de evangelizar al pueblo de Dios.
Durante los próximos días, deseo recordar las vidas de varios santos conocidos por la Iglesia y no reconocidos que fueron audaces y creativos en su época. Algunos eran miembros de la Congregación del Santísimo Redentor, los Redentoristas y otros incluyen clérigos, religiosos, laicos, conversos al catolicismo y personas de otras religiones. Be bold and creative in the task of rethinking…(EG.33)
Yesterday, I called attention to Pope Francis’ exhortation, the Joy of the Gospel, “Be bold and creative in this task of rethinking the goals, structures, style and methods of evangelization in their respective communities.” (EG. 33) Such boldness and creativity are absolutely necessary in working with migrants, refugees and immigrants. This is not just true in the challenges of our time. Such boldness has been part of missionary outreach since the Apostles left the upper room at Pentecost. It is the work of the Holy Spirit.
Grand moments of support for people after a disaster are reported in the news. The movement of governments and relief services such as Catholic Relief Services, and other religious and social services are reported on after hurricanes, earthquakes, genocides, wars and terrorist attacks. Such relief is necessary, but ministry must follow up with “bold and creative” ways to evangelize and bring hope to suffering people, not only in the moment of disaster but in the aftermath of the disasters.
We live in extraordinary times. I wish to consider the challenges of our times as they affect our Catholic faithful and ministry today. We need new “methods and expression” in the practices of our faith, as called for by Pope John Paul II. A rush to reinstate obligations and requirements of the faithful fails to listen to the Holy Spirit. Life before our present challenges has never been perfect. We need to reconsider long held practices. We need to recognize that some of our concerns today, were concerns before present disasters overwhelmed us. We need to not only restore the good practices of the past, but we need to renew failing practices and we need new ways to evangelize the people of God.
For the next few days, I wish to recall the lives of several saints and unrecognized saints who were bold and creative in their times. A few were members of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, the Redemptorists, and others include clergy, religious, laity, converts to Catholicism and people of other faiths. Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
