Evangelización: Sea audaz y creativo
Ya que tanto el Papa Benedicto XVI como el Papa Francisco dijeron que la evangelización no es proselitismo, y que la iglesia crece por atracción, ¿cómo son los misioneros para llevar a otros a Cristo? Considere las reflexiones tanto del Papa Francisco como del Papa Juan Pablo II.
En la Alegría del Evangelio, el Papa Francisco invita a todos: “A ser audaces y creativos en esta tarea de repensar los objetivos, las estructuras, el estilo y los métodos evangelizadores de las propias comunidades”. (EG. 33)
En 1983, el Papa Juan Pablo II, en la Asamblea de los Obispos de América Latina, dijo: “La evangelización cobrará toda su energía si es un compromiso, no con la re-evangelización, sino con una Nueva Evangelización, nueva en su ardor, métodos y expresión.”
Ambos Papas querían una Iglesia que no temiera buscar nuevas metas, estructuras, estilos, métodos y expresión. Tanto John Paul como Francis han tenido éxito en captar el entusiasmo de los jóvenes. Quienes participaron en los eventos de la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud fueron testigos de la energía de los jóvenes que asistieron a esos eventos, pero muchas diócesis, parroquias y líderes establecidos en la Iglesia se han resistido a la respuesta de los jóvenes en esos eventos.
Con demasiada frecuencia, la energía de esos momentos creativos se desvanece cuando las personas regresan a sus comunidades de origen. Los nuevos estilos, métodos y expresiones deben ser bienvenidos por todas las personas de la Iglesia, no solo por los jóvenes.
En mis cincuenta años como sacerdote, mis mejores experiencias de audacia y creatividad en el ministerio han sido con jóvenes y con migrantes e inmigrantes. La mayoría de los migrantes e inmigrantes en nuestras fronteras ya son jóvenes y llenos de esperanza y fervor. Seamos audaces y creativos.

Since both Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis said that evangelization is not proselytism, and that the church grows by attraction, how are missionaries to bring others to Christ. Consider reflections of both Pope Francis and Pope John Paul II.
In the Joy of the Gospel, Pope Francis invites everyone: “To be bold and creative in this task of rethinking the goals, structures, style and methods of evangelization in their respective communities.” (EG. 33)
In 1983, Pope John Paul II, at the Assembly of the Bishops of Latin America said, “Evangelization will gain its full energy if it is a commitment, not to re-evangelization but to a New Evangelization, new in its ardor, methods and expression.”
Both Popes wanted a Church, that is not fearful of seeking new goals, structures, styles, methods and expression. Both John Paul and Francis have been successful in capturing the enthusiasm of young people. Those who participated in World Youth Day events witnessed the energy of the young people attending those events, but many dioceses, parishes and established leaders in the Church have balked at the response of youth at those events.
Too often, he energy of those creative moments fade as people go back to their home communities. New styles, methods and expression need to be welcomed by all people in the Church, not just youth.
In my fifty years as a priest, my best experiences of boldness and creativity in ministry has been with youth and with migrants and immigrants. Most of the migrants and immigrants at our borders and young and filled with hope and zeal. Let us be bold and creative.

May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
