Migrantes y refugiados representan una oportunidad
“La presencia de los migrantes y los refugiados representa un enorme reto, pero también una oportunidad de crecimiento cultural y espiritual para todos”.
En el séptimo párrafo del mensaje del Papa Francisco, consideremos el desafío que representan los migrantes y refugiados, y la oportunidad de crecimiento cultural y espiritual para todos. Los desafíos son muchos y son evidentes a medida que los migrantes llegan a las fronteras internacionales de todo el mundo. Sus razones para huir de su país de origen difieren de una nación a otra, pero vemos que se nos presentan condiciones extremas en los medios. La guerra, los gobiernos autoritarios que no pueden o no quieren proteger a su pueblo, la persecución religiosa, la violencia del crimen organizado y los desastres naturales han presionado las fronteras de las naciones en todos los continentes. Cuando comencé a trabajar con migrantes e inmigrantes, las fuerzas impulsoras que motivaban a muchos migrantes hispanos eran las económicas y las personas que simplemente buscaban una vida mejor. La gente confiaba en que podrían triunfar en otro país.
Mientras visito a los migrantes hoy, sus razones para abandonar sus países de origen son más desesperadas y dolorosas. Incluso cuando no confían en que serán recibidos en otra nación, creen que es mejor arriesgar la vida que vivir cada día temiendo por su vida y la de sus familias.
“Gracias a ellos tenemos la oportunidad de conocer mejor el mundo y la belleza de su diversidad”.
No hay por qué temer al migrante. Nos muestran la resiliencia de las personas que creen en la justicia, el trabajo duro, el compromiso humano, la alegría por sus hijos y la creencia en un mundo de posibilidades. Muchas fotos de los niños nos desafían a ser generosos con los migrantes, pero no solo a estar motivados a cuidar por los niños. Los jóvenes, los padres jóvenes, los trabajadores calificados, los que educan a las comunidades, los que abogan y trabajan por la justicia también nos dan la oportunidad de conocer mejor nuestro mundo y la hermosa diversidad del mundo.
“Descubrimos también la riqueza que encierran religiones y espiritualidades desconocidas para nosotros, y esto nos estimula a profundizar nuestras propias convicciones”.
Por favor reconozca también la bendición que recibimos cuando descubrimos religiones y espiritualidades desconocidas para nosotros. Más que simplemente reconocer nuestras diferencias, sino llegar a una comprensión más profunda de nuestras propias convicciones.

Migrants and Refugees represent an opportunity
“The presence of migrants and refugees represents a great challenge, but at the same time an immense opportunity for the cultural and spiritual growth of everyone.”
In the seventh paragraph of Pope Francis’ message, let us consider the challenge migrants and refugees represent, and the opportunity for cultural and spiritual growth of everyone. The challenges are many and they are obvious as people arrive at international borders around the world. Their reasons for fleeing their country of origin differ from nation to nation, but we see extreme conditions presented to us in the media. War, authoritarian governments who cannot or will not protect its people, religious persecution, the violence of organized crime and natural disasters have pressured the borders of nations on every continent. When I began working with migrants and immigrants, the driving forces motivating many Hispanic migrants were economic and people simply seeking a better life. People were confident that they could make it in another country.
As I visit with migrants today, their reasons for leaving their home countries are more desperate and painful. Even when they lack confidence that they will be received in another nation, they believe that risking their lives is better than living each day in fear for their lives and the lives of their families.
Thanks to them, we have the chance to know better our world and its beautiful diversity…….”
There is no reason for us to fear the migrant. They show us the resilience of people who believe in justice, hard work, human commitment, joy in their children and belief in a world of possibility. Many pictures of the children challenge us to be generous with the migrants, but do not just be motivated to care because of the children. The youth, the young parents, the skilled workers, those who educate communities, those who advocate and work for justice also give us a chance to know our world better and the world’s beautiful diversity.
“It also leads to a discovery of the richness present in other religions and forms of spirituality unfamiliar to us, and this helps us to deepen our own convictions.”
Please recognize also the blessing we receive as we discover “religions and forms of spirituality unfamiliar to us.” Rather than simply recognizing our differences, but coming to a deeper understanding of our own convictions.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
