Fe y Migración
Considere la fe de las personas que dejan todo y a todos los que conocen para encontrar seguridad, esperanza y oportunidad en un país extranjero. Es desgarrador ver a la gente en albergues y centros de refugiados. El número de personas que buscan refugio en todo el mundo es abrumador. En cada nación que recibe a los refugiados, muchos quieren ayudar a las personas desesperadas, pero se preguntan: “¿Cómo se les puede ayudar a todos?” A algunos les preocupa que su país se vea abrumado por los refugiados. Tenemos tantas necesidades domésticas que también debemos atender.
Las preocupaciones de que la caridad se acabe al límite son legítimas. A medida que los países reciben migrantes, sería mucho más fácil si pudiéramos ver y terminar con el sufrimiento. Se desea la paz y la reconstrucción de una nación después de los desastres de la guerra y la naturaleza, pero es posible que no se realice durante largo tiempo. En lugar de considerar las dificultades de recibir inmigrantes, considere la fe y el carácter del refugiado.
El refugiado muestra fe y carácter al correr un gran riesgo al dejar su tierra natal por una nación desconocida con un idioma y una cultura diferentes. El migrante sale de su patria creyendo que donde quiera que vaya la vida será mejor. La incertidumbre, las penurias e incluso los abusos pueden ser aceptados por el migrante que confía en Dios y en la bondad de su pueblo.
Hay muchas personas que expresan miedo a los migrantes. Algunos creen que los criminales y abusadores entrarán en las naciones receptoras junto con los verdaderos refugiados. Esa no es mi experiencia con los inmigrantes. Migrar y solicitar asilo es tan difícil que es difícil imaginar que la persona con malas intenciones esté dispuesta a soportar las dificultades de la migración. Deberíamos preocuparnos más por crear una desesperación que les robe a los migrantes su dignidad y fe.
Al trabajar con refugiados y solicitantes de asilo, me sorprende su resiliencia. Soportan dificultades y malentendidos en cada etapa de su viaje. Cuando consideres a los migrantes, camina con ellos para conocer sus luchas, pero también para conocer su bondad.

Faith and Migration
Consider the faith of people who leave everything and everyone whom they know to find safety, hope and opportunity in a foreign country. It is heartbreaking to see people in shelters and refugee centers. The numbers of people seeking refuge all around the world are overwhelming. In every nation that does receive the refugees, many want to help the desperate people but ask the question, “How can they all be helped?” Some worry that their country will be overwhelmed by the refugees. We have so many domestic needs that we also must address.
The concerns that charity may be stretched thin are legitimate. As countries receive migrants, it would be much easier if we could see and end of the suffering. Peace and rebuilding a nation after disasters of war and nature is desired, but may not be realized for a long time. Rather than consider the difficulties of receiving migrants, consider the faith and character of the refugee.
The refugee shows faith and character by taking great risk by leaving homeland for an unknown nation with different language and culture. The migrant leaves homeland believing that wherever he or she goes, life will be better. Uncertainty, hardship and even abuse can be accepted by the migrant who trusts in God and the goodness of God’s people.
There are many people who express fear of migrants. Some believe that criminals and abusers will enter receiving nations along with the true refugees. That is not my experience with migrants. Migration and petitioning asylum is so difficult, it is hard to imagine the bad intentioned person being willing to endure the hardships of migration. We should worry more about creating desperation that robs migrants of their dignity and faith.
In working with refugees and asylum seekers, I am amazed at their resilience. They endure hardship and misunderstanding at every stage of their journey. When you consider migrants, walk with them to know their struggles, but also to know their goodness.

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
