“Desde ahora me felicitarán todas las generaciones.”
Cuando la Virgen María visitó a su prima Isabel, ofreció una reflexión profética cuando dijo: “Desde ahora me felicitarán todas las generaciones.” Honramos a María como nuestro modelo de fe al considerar su respuesta al ángel Gabriel. Cuando el ángel le anunció que iba a ser madre de un hijo, Jesús, ella tenía sus dudas, “¿cómo puede ser esto?” Después de que le dijeran que su hijo sería el Hijo de Dios, su respuesta fue de gran fe. “Yo soy la esclava del Señor; hágase en mí lo que me haz dicho.” Su increíble acto de fe ha sido honrado en la Iglesia como ella dijo.
Si bien mucha gente ha luchado por escuchar el Evangelio, hoy cumplimos sus palabras proféticas, que será honrada por todas las generaciones. Cuando comencé a trabajar con migrantes de México, me maravillé de su devoción a María, la Madre de Dios. En esta época del año celebramos las fiestas patronales de varias naciones latinas. Para algunos es la fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción. Para México es la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. La clave en ambas celebraciones es la creencia de que una virgen podría dar a luz al Hijo de Dios para la salvación de todos.
Honremos hoy a María, la madre de Dios, la inmaculada concepción y nuestra madre.

“From this day all generations shall call me blessed.”
When the Virgin Mary visited her cousin, Elizabeth, she offered a prophetic reflection when she said, “From this day all generations shall call me blessed.” We honor Mary as our model in faith as we consider her response to the angel Gabriel. When the angel announced to her that she was to be mother of a son, Jesus, she had her doubts, “how can this be?” After being told that her child would be the Son of God, her response was of great faith. “I am the handmaid of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” Her incredible act of faith, has been honored in the Church as she said.
While many people have struggled with hearing the Gospel, today we fulfill her prophetic words, that she will be honored for all generations. When I first began working with migrants from Mexico, I marveled at their devotion to Mary, the Mother of God. This time of the year we celebrate the patronal feasts of several Latino nations. For some it is the feast of the Immaculate Conception. For Mexico it is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The key thing in both celebrations is the belief that a virgin could bear the Son of God for the salvation of all.
Let us honor Mary today, the mother of God, the Immaculate Conception and Our mother.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
