Mom

I hope that every single person receives the same love and devotion my mother gave to my two brothers and four sisters. All seven of us know that we had the greatest Mom in the whole world. For all who believe their mother was the greatest Mom in the whole world, be grateful for all that your mothers have given to you in your lives. Faith and family brought my parents together. Both Mom and Dad came from great families, and together Mom and Dad gave us two foundations for our lives, Faith and Family.

Mom was the oldest of ten children, five girls and five boys. Mom was not only a good example for her brothers and sisters growing up, but shortly after she married Dad, her mother became gravely ill and died. Mom´s four youngest brothers and sisters were still in high school or grade school when their mother died. While only a few months married, Dad said that, “Your pa needs your help in caring for you brothers and sister. Mom went home to help her father keep with the teenage brothers and sisters after their mother’s death.

Soon, our family began to grow as there were six of us in less than ten years. We lived in a small, two-bedroom home. Mom was a great cook, but was most famous for her homemade bread. As children we did not realize how blessed we were to have her cooking, especially the bread.

We all knew Mom to be a saint. Dad would be known in Irish circles as a saint maker. Dad was faithful, provided for the family, deftly guided us as a family to divide our Sundays with both his side of the family and Mom’s side of the family. Every Sunday began with Church and the afternoons we spent with relatives on one side or the other of the family. Our cousins were close on both the McAndrew and Ramm sides of the family. There were two families on each side of the family who moved away from Omaha and when they came to town, it was a great celebration.

Mom was the greatest Mom, and she had a great partner with the greatest Dad. My prayer is that every mother and father love and care for their children, so that their children will say, “I had the greatest parents in the whole world.” May God bless you all.

I am still looking for your ideas

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
