La verdadera evangelización
En la Exhortación Apostólica Evangelii Nuntiandi (3), el Papa Pablo VI dijo: “Las condiciones de la sociedad en la que vivimos nos obligan a todos a revisar los métodos, a buscar por todos los medios el modo de llevar al hombre moderno el mensaje cristiano”.
Y el Papa Juan Pablo II en la Conferencia Episcopal de América Latina en 1993 dijo que necesitábamos una Nueva Evangelización, que fuera “nueva en su ardor, métodos y expresión”.
Ambos pedían nuevos métodos de evangelización, pero ¿estamos realmente probando “nuevos métodos”? Después de que comenzó la pandemia de COVID, al principio las redes sociales, Facebook y YouTube celebraban la Misa y una multitud de predicadores proyectaban mensajes de fe, religión, estudios bíblicos y muchas formas nuevas de llevar el mensaje de Dios a la gente. Para algunos, estos parecían tener éxito y popularidad. Pero ¿ha hecho el mensaje cristiano una gran diferencia en la evangelización de las personas?
Parece que a menudo, los métodos modernos solo parecen superficialmente ser nuevos y creativos, pero ¿están realmente llevando el mensaje cristiano al hombre moderno? Las guerras, el crimen organizado, el aumento de la migración global, la xenofobia y las divisiones sociales dominan las noticias diarias. ¿Qué falta en nuestros métodos modernos?
Necesitamos reconocer que la evangelización no es una cuestión de doctrina, teología o catequesis. Se trata de dar testimonio del amor de Dios a quienes conocemos. El Papa Pablo VI dijo: “El hombre moderno escucha con más gusto a los testigos que a los maestros, y si escucha a los maestros es porque son testigos”. No se trata de reunir a cientos o miles de personas para una celebración de la fe, sino de ser testigos vivientes del mensaje de Cristo.

True Evangelization
In the Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Nuntiandi (3), Pope Paul VI said, “The conditions of the society in which we live oblige all of us to revise methods, to seek by every means to study how we can bring the Christian message to modern man.”
And Pope John Paul II at the Episcopal Conference of Latina America in 1993 said that we needed a New Evangelization, that was “new in its ardor, methods and expression.”
Both called for new methods of evangelization, but are we really trying “new methods”? After the COVID pandemic began, at the beginning social media, facebook and youtube celebrations of Mass and a multitude of preachers projected messages of faith, religion, bible studies and many new ways of bringing the message of God to people. For some, these appeared to have success and popularity. But has the Christian message made a great difference in the evangelization of people.
It appears that often, modern methods only superficially appear to be new and creative, but are they really bringing the Christian message to modern man. Wars, organized crime, an increase in global migration, xenophobia and societal divisions dominate the daily news. What is missing in our modern methods?
We need to recognize that evangelization is not about doctrine, theology or catechesis. It is about witnessing the love of God to those whom we meet. Pope Paul VI said, “Modern man listens more willingly to witnesses than to teachers, and if he does listen to teachers, it is because they are witnesses.” It is not about gathering hundreds or thousands of people for a celebration of faith, but our being walking witnesses to the message of Christ.
