Por Dios, no hay fronteras
Los pueblos y ciudades están definidos por fronteras. Los estados están definidos por fronteras. Las naciones están definidas por fronteras. Las personas jurídicas se definen por reglas, normas y territorios. Los campos de deportes tienen límites. Dentro de la Iglesia, las diócesis y las parroquias tienen límites. Experimentamos límites en muchos aspectos de la vida. Anhelamos experimentar lo que está más allá de los límites humanos. Este anhelo humano de una vida sin fronteras ni límites nos lleva a lo divino, a Dios.
Para Dios, no hay fronteras, ni límites. Para buscar lo divino, Abraham se convirtió en un arameo errante. Moisés subió al monte Sinaí. María escuchó al ángel que le dijo lo imposible, ella era una virgen que concebiría por el poder del Espíritu de Dios. Los santos de la Iglesia experimentaron el amor de Dios sin límites.
Ya que para Dios no hay fronteras, la fe en Dios necesita que estemos abiertos al encuentro con Dios en los momentos inesperados de la vida. Cuanto más escuchamos a Jesús, leemos y meditamos en las Escrituras, más debemos permitirnos ir más allá de los límites de las fronteras y las reglas. Si seguimos el único mandamiento que Jesús nos dio, “Amaos los unos a los otros como yo os he amado”, podemos comenzar nuestro camino de fe.
Habiendo trabajado en el ministerio parroquial y en la administración diocesana, he servido dentro de los límites y bajo las normas del ministerio. En el ministerio con migrantes, especialmente cuando los trabajadores entran y salen de las jurisdicciones de la Iglesia y el Estado, los ministros migrantes enfrentan desafíos que definen nuestro ministerio como extraordinario (fuera de lo ordinario). A menudo, he luchado con límites y normas que no reconocen las necesidades extraordinarias de los migrantes y refugiados.
Jesús dijo que él es el Buen Pastor que conoce a sus ovejas y ellas lo conocen a él. Los pastores y ministros necesitan caminar con sus ovejas para conocer la presencia de Jesús a quien encontramos en los más necesitados del mundo. Caminar con el Pueblo de Dios.

For God, there are no borders
Towns and cities are defined by borders. States are defined by borders. Nations are defined by borders. Legal entities are defined by rules, norms and territories. Fields of sports have boundaries. Within the Church, dioceses and parishes have boundaries. We experience limits in many aspects of life. We long to experience what is beyond human boundaries. This human desire for life without borders and limits leads us to the divine, to God.
For God, there are no borders, no limits. To seek the divine, Abraham became a wandering Aramaean. Moses climbed Mount Sinai. Mary listened to the angel who told her the impossible, she was a virgin who would be with child by the power of the Spirit of God. The saints of the Church experienced the love of God without limits.
Since for God, there are no borders, faith in God needs us to be open to encounter God in the unexpected moments of life. The more that we listen to Jesus, read and meditate on the Scriptures, the more we must allow ourselves to move beyond the boundaries of borders and rules. If we follow the only command that Jesus gave to us, “Love one another as I have loved you”, we can begin our walk of faith.
Having worked in parish ministry and in diocesan administration, I have served within boundaries and under norms for ministry. In ministry with migrants, especially as workers move in and out of jurisdictions of Church and State, migrant ministers encounter challenges that define our ministry as extraordinary (outside of the ordinary). Often, I have struggled with boundaries and norms that fail to recognize extraordinary needs of migrants and refugees.
Jesus said that he is the Good Shepherd who knows his sheep and they know him. Pastors and ministers need to walk with their sheep in order to know the presence of Jesus whom we meet in the most needy of the world. Walk with the People of God.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
