Sé “más valiente”
El Papa Francisco ha llamado a los católicos a ser “más valientes” al responder a los desafíos de la vida actual. Nos dice que no tengamos miedo. No debemos buscar soluciones fáciles. Necesitamos ser personas de esperanza. Hoy, la esperanza es visible en las vidas de los pobres, más que en las de los poderosos. La esperanza se encuentra en los pobres, más que en las personas más ricas.
Nuestra Congregación Redentorista identifica nuestra misión como la de estar llamados a “ser evangelizados por los pobres”. Jesús se revela en los pobres. Él dijo en Mateo 25: “Porque tuve hambre, y me dieron de comer, tuve sed y ustedes me dieron de beber. Cuando fui forastero, y ustedes me recibieron en su casa”. La respuesta de las personas que sufren puede enseñarnos los caminos de Dios.
En lugar de centrarse en la desesperación de los pobres, considere su respuesta al sufrimiento. En los desiertos de Arizona, hay muchas señales de quienes cruzan la frontera. Se pueden encontrar huellas, botellas de agua desechadas, ropa tirada a un lado y señales de los peligros que enfrentan los migrantes cuando buscan refugio. También hay momentos en los que se ve un lugar de descanso para los inmigrantes. Puede haber una cruz hecha de ramas y restos secos de cactus. Hay un rosario colgado de un árbol. Una estampa sagrada o pequeña estatua religiosa que representa la oración del migrante. En medio de grandes desafíos, uno ve esperanza. Al ver tales sitios, uno no sabe el final de la historia del migrante que pasó, pero reconoce la esperanza del migrante.
Como dice el Papa Francisco: “Necesitamos ser más valiente”.

Be “more courageous”
Pope Francis has called on Catholics to be “more courageous” as we respond to the challenges of life today. He tells us to not be afraid. We are not to look for easy solutions. We need to be people of hope. Today, hope is visible in the lives of the powerless, more than in the powerful. Hope is found in the poor, rather than in people of greater wealth.
Our Redemptorist Congregation identifies our mission as being called “to be evangelized by the poor.” Jesus reveals himself in the poor. He said in Matthew 25: “When I was hungry, you gave me to eat. When I was thirsty, you gave me to drink. When I was a stranger, you welcomed me.” The response of people who are suffering can teach us the ways of God.
Rather than focus on the desperation of the poor, consider their response to suffering. In the deserts of Arizona, there are many signs of those crossing the border. One may find footprints, discarded water bottles, clothing tossed aside and signs of the dangers that migrants face as they seek refuge. There are also moments when one sees a place of rest for migrants. There may be a cross made of branches and dried-up cactus remains. There is a rosary hanging on a tree. A holy card or small religious statue representing the prayer of the migrant. In the midst of great hardship, one sees hope. When seeing such sites, one does not know the end of the story of the migrant who passed by, but one recognizes the hope of the migrant.
As Pope Francis says, “We need to be people of hope.”

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
