¿A quién quieres educar?

Pregunta al Padre Migrante: “Disfruto de sus reflexiones sobre migración e inmigración, pero a medida que se ha desarrollado este sitio web, me he preguntado” ¿A quién quieres educar?”
Comencé estos blogs para honrar la fe de los migrantes que me han enseñado tanto sobre sus esperanzas y sueños. Los migrantes me han dado la bienvenida a sus vidas y mi vida se enriquece con ellos. Espero que los líderes religiosos presten mayor atención a las necesidades espirituales de los pobres, especialmente a aquellos que no reciben suficiente atención de la Iglesia. En las crisis, ofrecemos comida a los hambrientos, bebida a los sedientos y refugio a los desamparados, pero no les ofrecemos la presencia sacramental de Cristo a muchos pobres. Podemos mejorar en el apoyo a la fe de los migrantes. Como dice el Papa Francisco, “la peor discriminación que sufren los pobres es la falta de atención espiritual”. (EG. 200)
También quiero educar a personas de buena voluntad. Que busquen comprender mejor la verdad sobre la desesperación que motiva a las personas a cruzar ríos, océanos y montañas para buscar una forma de vida más segura. Que los líderes políticos, comunitarios y religiosos sigan el consejo de mi mentor en el ministerio de migrantes, quien simplemente me instó a “caminar con su gente”. Personas a las que conozco desde hace muchos años hacen comentarios increíblemente crueles e ignorantes sobre los migrantes basados en la desinformación y el racismo de la política de hoy. Muchos escuchan mis experiencias de ministerio con migrantes con compasión, pero creen que estos casos son raros y excepcionales, cuando solo son representativos de los millones de personas que buscan una vida mejor en todo el mundo.

The following is the first question from a reader that may ask in reading the daily reflections of Padre Migrante. I thank a reader for this question, and hope that many more may follow.)
Question to Padre Migrante: “I enjoy your reflections on migration and immigration, but as this website has developed, I have wondered, “Who do you want to reach?”
I began these blogs to honor the faith of the migrants who have taught me so much about their hopes and dreams. Migrants have welcomed me into their lives, and my life is enriched by them. I hope that religious leaders pay greater attention to the spiritual needs of the poor, especially those who do not receive sufficient attention of the Church. In crises, we offer food to the hungry, a drink to the thirsty and shelter to the homeless, but do we fail to offer them the sacramental presence of Christ. We can do better in supporting the faith of migrants. As Pope Francis says, “the worst discrimination which the poor suffer is the lack of spiritual care.” (EG 200)
I also want to reach people of good will. That they seek to understand better the truth about the desperation that motivates people to cross rivers, oceans and mountains to seek a more secure way of life. May political, community and religious leaders follow the advice of my mentor in migrant ministry who simply urged me to “walk with his people.” People whom I have known for many years make incredibly cruel and ignorant remarks about migrants based on misinformation and racism of today’s politics. Many hear my experiences of ministry with migrants with compassion, but believe that these cases are rare and exceptional, when they are only representative of the millions of people seeking better lives around the world.
