Mission for a Wounded World: The Incarnation of Jesus
It is difficult to imagine a Redemptorist mission without considering the role of the Virgin Mary in the story of Salvation. The Incarnation of Jesus begins with the action of Mary, accepting her role in salvation. “The Word became flesh.” (Jn. 1: 14) Today, as we consider our wounded world, many have doubts about God, salvation and the promise of the kingdom of God. Mary also had doubts as the Angel Gabriel told her that she would be the mother of God. She asked, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?” (Lk. 1: 34) Her response to those doubts shows us the way we seek to trust in God during these troubled times. “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.”(Lk. 1: 38)
We will consider Mary´s relationship with Jesus, not only in his birth, but recalling the other moments in the gospels, and consider those moments meaning for today’s difficult challenges.
