Para entender la migración
“Mi padre era un arameo errante” (Dt 26:5). Para la comunidad judía primitiva, este pasaje era un recordatorio de sus raíces como pueblo migratorio. La migración de Abraham es la historia de un pueblo itinerante que se desplazaba hacia Dios y un lugar donde pudieran adorar en paz. Su historia representa la búsqueda humana de Dios, significado, seguridad y un lugar al que llamar hogar.
A lo largo de la historia, la gente ha apreciado la valentía y la gracia de las personas que eligieron trasladarse grandes distancias, incluso a otras naciones, en busca de libertad, fe, seguridad y oportunidades para su pueblo. Más que cualquier otra nación en la tierra, la historia de los Estados Unidos es la historia del movimiento de personas, la migración. La migración de personas en gran necesidad se celebra con la Estatua de la Libertad que da la bienvenida a los inmigrantes en el puerto de Nueva York. La migración de personas que se mudan de la Costa Este a la Costa Oeste se celebra a medida que la nación se expandió de las trece colonias originales a cincuenta estados.
Si bien los emigrantes de muchas naciones eligieron venir a los Estados Unidos, otros llegaron como personas desplazadas por la fuerza, esclavos. Otros llegaron a este país como trabajadores temporales para construir ferrocarriles y proporcionar mano de obra en comunidades agrícolas durante la necesidad de trabajadores cuando muchos de los trabajadores rurales sirvieron a la nación durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Después de dos guerras mundiales y muchas crisis, migrantes que llegaron como trabajadores, migrantes y refugiados se convirtieron a ser residentes permanentes y ciudadanos.
Para entender la migración, es necesario definir ciertos términos:
Emigrante: persona que abandona su propio país para establecerse permanentemente en otro país.
Inmigrante: persona que tiene estatus legal para entrar y permanecer en otro país.
Migrante: persona que se muda de un lugar a otro para encontrar trabajo o mejores condiciones de vida. (el migrante puede estar presente con o sin inspección.)

To Understand Migration
“My father was a wandering Aramean.” (Dt 26:5) For the early Jewish community, this passage was a reminder of their roots as a migratory people. The migration of Abraham is the story of itinerant people moving toward God and a place where they could worship in peace. His story represents the human search for God, meaning, security and a place to call home.
Throughout history, people have cherished the courage and grace of people who chose to move great distances, even to other nations, in pursuit of liberty, faith, safety and opportunity for their people. More than any other nation on earth, United States history is the story of the movement of people, migration. The migration of people in great need is celebrated by the Statue of Liberty welcoming immigrants into New York harbor. The migration of people moving from the East Coast to the West is celebrated as the nation expanded from the original thirteen colonies to become fifty states.
While emigrants from many nations chose to come to the United States, others came as forcefully displaced persons, slaves. Others came to this country as temporary workers to build railroads and to provide a workforce in agricultural communities during the need for workers when many of the rural workforce served the nation during World War II. After two world wars and many crises, migrants who arrived as workers, migrants and refugees became permanent residents and citizens.
In order to understand migration, certain terms need definition:
Emigrant: a person who leaves one’s own country in order to settle permanently in another country.
Immigrant: a person who has legal status to enter and stay in another country.
Migrant: a person who moves from one place to another, to find work or better living conditions. (the migrant may be present with or without inspection)
