The poor have faith / Los pobres tienen fe
“Los pobres tienen una apertura especial a la fe”. (EG 200)
Cuando leí esto del Papa Francisco por primera vez, me di cuenta de que, durante más de treinta años, se me ha mostrado una y otra vez la verdad de esta afirmación. Sé que la vida de los pobres, a muchos les parece una maldición, una tristeza, una vergüenza. Sin embargo, los pobres han sido sorprendentes para mí mientras sobreviven a las dificultades. Me inspira la fe de los migrantes, de los pobres, de los marginados, de los que están en la periferia de la Iglesia. Mucha gente podría darse por vencida ante los sufrimientos de los pobres, pero una y otra vez los pobres muestran esperanza en los tiempos difíciles y confían en Dios cuando no se tienen motivos para confiar.
Esta semana, las personas que trabajan con campesinos migrantes se reúnen para animarse unos a otros en nuestro caminar con los pobres. Oremos por todos aquellos que ofrecen atención pastoral a los campesinos y sus familias.

“The poor have a special openness to the faith.” (EG 200)
When I first read this from Pope Francis, I realize that for over thirty years, the truth of this statement has been shown to me over and over. I know that the life of the poor, appears to many to be a curse, a sadness, a shame. Yet, the poor have been amazing to me as they survive hardships. The faith of the migrant, the poor, the outcast, those on the periphery of the Church inspires me. Many people could give up in the face of the sufferings of the poor, but time and again the poor show hope in the difficult of times, and trust in God when one has no reason to trust.
This week, people who work with migrant farmworkers meet to encourage each other in our walk with the poor. Pray for all those offering pastoral attention to migrant farmworkers and their families.

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
