Abordar trenes de carga lo realizan muchos migrantes que intentan llegar desde la frontera sur de México hacia el norte. Cuando pasan los trenes de carga, los migrantes intentan abordar los trenes mientras el tren está en movimiento. Pueden intentar esperar trenes a velocidades de hasta veinte millas por hora. Los peligros son constantes. Hay innumerables lesiones, pérdida de extremidades e incluso la muerte. Una vez en el tren, no es fácil permanecer en el tren con las paradas y los movimientos bruscos del tren, algunos se caen del tren. Casi medio millón de personas montan la bestia cada año.
Un tren venía a pasar por la “Casa de la Caridad Hogar Migrante”. La directora me apresuró a la puerta para ver el tren. Ella dijo, este no es un tren en el que viajan los migrantes. No estaba seguro de por qué. Mientras pasaba, ella habló de los peligros. Es impresionante ver pasar un largo tren, preguntándose cómo será viajar en la “bestia”.
Había unos quince inmigrantes al otro lado de las vías esperando que pasara un tren al que pudieran subirse. Mientras los miraba, todo lo que podía hacer era decir una oración.

The Beast / La Bestia
Hoping freight trains is done by many migrants trying to get from the southern border of Mexico to the north. When freight trains pass, migrants try to board the trains while the train is moving. They may try hoping trains at speeds up to twenty miles per hour. The dangers are constant. There are countless injuries, loss of limbs and even death. Once on the train, it is not easy to stay on the train with the stops and jerking motion of the train, some fall off the train. Nearly one half million people ride the beast each year.
A train was coming to pass the “Casa de la Caridad Hogar Migrante”. The director rushed me to the door to see the train coming. She said, this is not a train that the migrants ride. I was uncertain as to why. As it passed, she spoke of the dangers. It is impressive watching a long train move by, wondering what it must be like to ride the “beast”.
There were about fifteen migrants across the tracks waiting for a train to pass that they could hop. As I watched them, all I could do is say a prayer.
Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
