Preparándose para la reunión de Vayan y Den Fruto
La Red Católica Campesino Migrante en coordinación con el Instituto Pastoral de la Universidad de Loyola Chicago se reunirá con líderes diocesanos y representantes del ministerio campesino en Chicago, del 16 al 21 de junio. El encuentro “Vayan y Den Fruto” nos llama a poner atención extraordinaria a las personas de la periferia de la sociedad y de la Iglesia. Junto con la atención a las necesidades extraordinarias presentes en las vidas de los migrantes, también consideramos las “necesidades espirituales ordinarias de los migrantes” y pedimos la atención del ministerio ordinario de la Iglesia a los migrantes, especialmente en las zonas rurales. El éxito de “Vayan y Den Fruto” sólo sucederá cuando el ministerio ordinario de la Iglesia reconozca y camine con los migrantes como nuestros hermanos y hermanas.
“Quiero expresar con dolor que la peor discriminación que sufren los pobres es la falta de atención espiritual.” (La Alegría del Evangelio, p. 200) La primera misión de la Iglesia es predicar la Buena Nueva a todo el pueblo y brindar los medios sacramentales de la Iglesia como medios espirituales para acercarse a Dios. Brindar atención espiritual es la misión de la Iglesia, ¿y tenemos que incluir a los pobres y a los migrantes. ¿Ponemos suficiente atención a lo que el Papa Francisco dice que es la “peor discriminación que sufren los pobres”?
Los migrantes tienen necesidades sociales y físicas extraordinarias y urgentes. A medida que la Iglesia responde a esas necesidades, también debemos atender sus necesidades espirituales ordinarias. El Papa Francisco escribe que debemos “abandonar el cómodo criterio pastoral del ‘Siempre se ha hecho así’. Invito a todos a ser audaces y creativos en esta tarea de repensar los objetivos, las estructuras, el estilo y los métodos evangelizadores de las propias comunidades.” (también La Alegría del Evangelio, p. 200)
Es necesario que el ministerio ordinario de la Iglesia preste más atención a las personas que se encuentran a la periferia de la Iglesia. Las personas reunidas en Chicago están haciendo cosas buenas para ayudar a los pobres, pero también necesitamos la atención del ministerio ordinario de la Iglesia.

Preparing for Vayan y Den Fruto gathering
The Catholic Migrant Farmworker Network in coordination with Loyola University Chicago Pastoral Institute will gather with diocesan leaders and representatives of farmworker ministries in Chicago, June 16-21. The gathering,”Vayan y Den Fruto” calls us to offer extraordinary care for people on the periphery of society and the Church. Along with attention to the extraordinary needs present in the lives of migrants, we also consider the “ordinary spiritual needs of migrants” and hope for more attention of the ordinary ministry of the Church to spiritual care for migrants, especially in rural and agricultural communities. The success of “Vayan y Den Fruto” will only happen when the ordinary ministry of the Church recognizes and walks with migrants as our brothers and sisters.
“I want to say, with regret, that the worst discrimination which the poor suffer is the lack of spiritual care.” (The Joy of the Gospel, p. 200) The first mission of the Church is to preach the Good News to all people, and to provide the sacramental and spiritual means to grow closer to God. Providing spiritual care is the mission of the Church, and we must include the poor and the migrant in it. Do we pay enough attention to what Pope Francis calls the “worst discrimination which the poor suffer”?
Migrants have extraordinary and urgent social and physical needs. As the Church responds to those needs, we must also attend to their ordinary spiritual needs. Pope Francis writes that we need to “abandon the complacent attitude that says: ‘We have always done it this way.’ I invite everyone to be bold and creative in this task of rethinking the goals, structures, style and methods of evangelization in their respective communities.” (also The Joy of the Gospel, p. 200)
There needs to be more attention paid by the ordinary ministry of the Church to pay attention to people on the fringes of the Church. The people gathering in Chicago are doing good things in outreach to the poor, but we need to also invite the ordinary ministers of the Church to this ministry.

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
