Mandamiento de la Última Cena
La reflexión más larga sobre el mensaje que Jesús dio a sus discípulos en la noche de la Última Cena está en el Evangelio de Juan. Cinco de los veintiún capítulos tratan sobre Jesús enseñando a los Apóstoles que se reunieron a la mesa con él para la cena. Juan no escribe sobre el pan y el vino convirtiéndose en el cuerpo y la sangre de Cristo, pero en Juan enseña el nuevo mandamiento: “Ámense unos a otros como yo los he amado”. (Juan 13:34)
Los Apóstoles son libres para amar y ser amados. No hay vuelta atrás. No hay castigo. No hay más obligaciones que amar como Jesús ama. No bastó que Jesús lo dijera una vez. Él repite las palabras exactas de nuevo: “Este es mi mandamiento: ámense unos a otros como yo los he amado”. (Juan 15:12)
Creo que subestimamos la importancia de este “nuevo” mandamiento. Demasiada gente experimenta vergüenza y temor de Dios en lugar de confiar en el amor de Jesús. Es por eso que vemos demasiados con “cara de vinagre” en nuestras iglesias. (EG. 85) Muchos de nuestros cantos hablan de alegría, pero no lo vemos eso en la piedad de hoy. Necesitamos ser mejores testigos del amor.

Last Supper Commandment
The longest reflection on the message that Jesus gave to his disciples on the night on the Last Supper is in the Gospel of John. Five of the twenty-one Chapters are about Jesus teaching the Apostles who gathered at the table with him for the supper. John does not write about the bread and the wine becoming the body and blood of Christ, but in John, he teaches the new commandment, “Love one another as I have loved you.” (Jn. 13:34)
The Apostles are free to love and to be loved. There is no looking back. There is no chastisement. There are no obligations other than to love as Jesus loves. It was not enough for Jesus to say it once. He repeats the exact words again, “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.” (Jn. 15:12)
I believe that we underestimate the importance of this “new” commandment. Too many people experience shame and fear of God rather than placing confidence in Jesus’ love. It is why we see too many “sourpusses” in our churches. (EG. 85) Many of our songs speak of joy, but do we see that in today’s piety. We need to be better witnesses of love.

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
