Primer Encuentro PCMRT/CMFN después del COVID
Acabamos de terminar la primera reunión de la oficina de Cuidado Pastoral para Migrantes, Refugiados y Viajeros de la USCCB con la Red Católica de Campesinos Migrantes desde el inicio de COVID. En la reunión estuvieron personas del PCMRT, Justicia para Inmigrantes y personal de la USCCB. El personal del CMFN con nuestro moderador episcopal y representantes de las Diócesis de Yakima, Seattle, Spokane, Baker, Victoria, TX, San Antonio, Stockton, Tucson y Chicago. Nuestra reunión incluyó a tres obispos, clérigos, religiosos y laicos.
Los líderes de PCMRT y CMFN han realizado visitas periódicas a personas involucradas en el ministerio de trabajadores agrícolas migrantes desde 2000, pero esta fue la primera desde COVID. Han sucedido tantas cosas que han cambiado la producción agrícola, el procesamiento y la distribución de alimentos en los últimos años que en la Iglesia se necesitan nuevos enfoques para los trabajadores inmigrantes. La visita al sitio de la Diócesis de Yakima incluyó visitas a un huerto de manzanas, una empacadora de última generación, una visita a inmigrantes en dos campamentos de inmigrantes y la celebración de una misa en un campamento.
Una parte importante de la reunión fue reunir a personas involucradas en varios ministerios de migrantes por primera vez desde COVID. Tuvimos representantes de ministerios de trabajadores agrícolas, Justicia para Inmigrantes, Caridades Católicas, directores diocesanos del Ministerio Hispano y otros. Fue una oportunidad para crear relaciones entre líderes católicos en el ministerio hispano.

First PCMRT / CMFN Gathering after COVID
We just finished the first gathering of the USCCB office of Pastoral Care for Migrants, Refugees and Travelers with the Catholic Migrant Farmworker Network since the onset of COVID. Present at the gathering were people from the PCMRT, Justice for Immigrants and staff of the USCCB. The staff of the CMFN with our Episcopal liaison and representatives from the Dioceses of Yakima, Seattle, Spokane, Baker, Victoria, TX, San Antonio, Stockton, Tucson, and Chicago. Our gathering included three bishops, clergy, religious and laity.
Leaders of PCMRT and CMFN have done site visits of people involved in Migrant Farmworker ministry regularly since 2000, but this was the first since COVID. So much has happened that has changed agricultural production, processing and food distribution in recent years that new approaches for immigrant workers are needed in the Church. The site visit of the Diocese of Yakima included visits to an apple orchard, a state-of-the-art packinghouse, a visit with migrants in two migrant camps including the celebration of Mass in a camp.
An important part of the gathering was bringing people involved in various migrant ministries for the first time since COVID. We had representatives from farmworker ministries, Justice for Immigrants, Catholic Charities, diocesan directors for Hispanic Ministry and others. It was an opportunity to create relationships between Catholic leaders in Hispanic Ministry.

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
